Old But Gold -The Beautiful Glass House

Before 2020

I have always being fascinated by mirrors!

At a point in time, I was so obsessed with staring back at my reflection that my friend; Doctor Edward (A Neurosurgery Resident Doctor at the moment) would tease me if we passed by a puddle of water to say; “Hey, did you miss that? You did not check your reflection”. He is very annoying! You can find me pulling his ears here. This photo is 10 years old! Don’t blame the quality.

From 2020

After becoming a Local Guide, I became fascinated with Glass buildings or Glass Houses!

In December, I had to visit Ibadan; the Oyo State Capital where I came across this magnificent Glass building with the most amazing stone-paved sidewalks I have ever seen in Nigeria!

I loved the fact that not only did it reflect the surroundings, it was an iconic Glass house and could be seen from several locations. To see the name boldy written on the building you need to be standing in front of the Fresh2Go Smoothies in the complex where the Cocoa House is located.

I have read several posts about Glass houses, the most iconic being the one of an Indoor Garden booming within a Glass House in an Arid country.

Are you fascinated by Glass Houses? Have you taken a photo of one? May I see? Please add a Map link when you share. Thank you.

This is of the Femi Johnson Broking House/Glass House/Femi Johnson House; a monument completed in 1982 and the first individually owned 12-storey building in Nigeria.

If you ever travel to Gurugram where I live, there are glass facade buildings just about everywhere.

If you love glass-towers I will take pictures and share them in my reply, in a few days.

But frankly, there is no building out here that comes even close to the one you’ve shared

Hello @Ewaade_3A Thanks for sharing. As someone who was born and bred in Ibadan I cannot avoid nostalgic feeling when I see your post. Femi Johnson tower has been fascinating to me. The first glass building in the Ibadan. It is simply ahead of its time in the city. Funny enough I don’t know what femi Johnson look like I simple hear the name like everyone else

I am glad to show you a glimpse of home @Emmik20 Let me even giat you, why preparing to write this post, I could not remember the year it was built anymore, so, I had to go surf the internet, then, I saw what Femi Johnson looks like, He was ahead of his time even in dressing :grinning:

I found the link!

Are there Glass houses in Russia?

Hello @Ewaade_3A Thanks for the link. This is my first time of reading about Femi Johnson. When I was growing up we were fed with rumors that he was an aircraft engineer in the Soviet Union. Now I know better.

Good to know he was a pal of Prof. Wole Soyinka, a man I hold in high esteem.

Glass houses are new to Russia but you know , Russia now has all the records for glass buildings in Europe. The tallest, the largest, most beautiful, most colourful. They are all there at Moscow business centre, lakhta center at St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg also has many sky scrapers.
