In my post of May 20 I wrote about the new and improved Maps Contribution Edits details which has slowly been released around the world and now I see that Google is doing the same with a new Maps review non-approval notification, see example screenshot below.
While we may not agree with given non-approval itself, afterall the AI system doesn’t always get it right as in my case here, I think this improved transparency is a great step forward. At least now we more readily know if and when our reviews are hidden for “likely” being non-policy compliant, and can more easily and quickly appeal that decision.
Has this feature rolled out to your part of the world? What do you think about it?
As I said in December (Finally a bit of help - Are you aware of your review status? ) “Even if this message is not telling us what to do next, at least it is telling that there is something we can do.” and “I would like to ask Google to extend this worldwide. I know it can be a disappointing message, but at least we are informed, and this is much better than discovering this on a later stage”
So I am quite happy to see that now we are getting an improved communication
I’m happy to share that the Googlers has informed us that this new feature is currently being rolled out to other countries than France in Europe. Italy is one of these countries
Evaluated by problem reports it is probably not the perfect solution to all the problems with hidden reviews. But a step in the right direction.
As editing a review makes the review be considered a new review, we can reset the number of appeals available should it be necessary. However, if a review is already in the process of appeal, we should wait for the results first before editing the review.
Apesar de ser um “avanço”, acho essa ferramenta de pouca utilidade se o usuário tem muitas avaliações e avaliações muito antigas, meu caso.
É interesse saber que uma avaliação recente não foi publicada, para isso ajuda. Mas no caso de avaliações antigas, não serve a nada, pois eu não vou ficar olhando uma avaliação de dez anos atrás se ela está oculta ou não. E isso pode acontecer, pois o Google está sempre “rastreando” avaliações com base naquilo que inserem na IA. Uma simples mudança da vírgula na programação pode fazer ela enteder que uma avaliação ofende as regras. Isso é ainda pior em uma avaliação antiga, escrita para regras de uma época.
O mais adequado seria o Google ter um filtro no perfil separando “avaliações publicadas” e “avaliações ocultas”, isso sim seria útil.
Por exemplo, no meu caso. Tenho muitas avaliações antigas, e nunca sei quando ou qual delas estão publicadas ou ocultas, pois dá muito trabalho fazer isso manualmente, além de ter que rolar para baixo e para cima. Mas sei que tem momento que estão ocultas, tem momento que estão publicadas…
Atualmente eu não estou com nenhuma avaliação oculta. Mas quando vejo que isso aconteceu eu não procuro saber qual avaliação não está publicada - é muito tempo a perder para encontrar. Já preencho logo o formulário e envio.
Ainda tenho esperança que um dia haverá filtros separando não só avaliações, mas fotos, edições etc.
I know that west Africa does be the last to get these new features and developments. Nevertheless its a welcome idea. I like it and will appreciate it whenever it gets rolled out to us here in west Africa. Waiting eagerly for it whenever it comes…
This feature should be easier and better than having to guess or go through my almost a thousand reviews to get the hidden or private ones. I haven’t ever searched for hidden reviews though, but I have had lots of them at a point. The fact that they could get hidden has reduced my enthusiasm for writing reviews. That would save me the risk of suspension or total ban from the local guides program as a result of hidden reviews.
Lots of patient needed when it comes to Google ,the local guides program etc on the maps.

Não faço isso por duas razões.
Primeiro, editar uma revisão muito antiga de um local que eu não voltei ou não visitei mais, não acho correto, pois não corresponderia a uma “experiência” real. A experiência real é aquela que eu escrevi a dez ou 12 anos. Se o Google quer manter, ótimo. Caso não tenham “sensibilidade” de entender que é comentário de uma outra época, paciência.
Segundo, é muito trabalho para algo que o Google tem como facilitar criando um filtro nas contas e informar qual avaliação está oculta e qual está publicada. Eu tenho mais de 300 avaliações com mais de 10 anos, que refletem a experiência daquele momento, daquele tempo. Imagine editar uma a uma cada avaliação para se adequar ao Google de hoje. Além de não ser “honesto”, não faz sentido.
Acho muito interessante em manter avaliações antigas, até como um registro, uma história do lugar.

No momento não tenho nenhuma avaliação oculta, mas isso pode mudar ( ). Se percebo que houve uma alteração no número de avaliações publicadas, não é produtivo (mesmo com esse aviso) procurar qual avaliação está oculta. Utilizo o formulário e aguardo.
I think you have a valid point here. In fact, when we edit a review the timestamp is updated and the consequence is that it might be shown to users as one of the first reviews of the place.
But as the system works now, Google made available only one path to request a re-check of a review. And it has some negative side effects. Hopefully, the new appeals system for individual reviews will leave the date alone. But should an edit be necessary to allow for a second appeal, the date will likely change again.
I decided that I would rather have my reviews visible than carry the right date. And if needed we can mention in the review text when it was made.

Mas um comentário de 12 anos atrás de um local que não retornei, se a IA decidir torná-lo oculto, eu não vou editar pelas razões já mencionadas anteriormente.
Mas no momento não posso reclamar, todas as minhas avaliações estão publicadas.
Acredito que os programadores de IA devem levar em conta a “idade” de uma avaliação.
Um exemplo: Minha avaliação mais antiga tem 13 anos e segue todo o roteiro da época que o Google Mapas pedia:
Texto dizendo sua experiência na chegada, recepção.
Texto descrevendo o que você comeu ou serviços que utilizou;
Texto descrevendo o atendimento dos colaboradores
Texto descrevendo sobre a facilidade de comunicação com o local etc.
Texto descrevendo as instalações, idade, conservação etc.
Por estarmos falando desse assunto fui ao local do meu primeiro comentário e notei que eles não mudaram. A mesma reclamação que fiz a 13 anos (problema com água nos banheiros) ainda é pontuada atualmente por outros clientes. Isso é a história do local, o Google deve ter a sensibilidade de manter isso. Pois eu penso, se em 13 anos um lugar não atende uma reclamação comum de seus clientes, não é um local que eu (e ninguém) deva estar, pois é um local que não leva a sério as demandas dos seus clientes.
Oh so it was late to roll-out here down under then @ErmesT however in my message it is telling us what we can do next. With the Learn more link we can first check the policy and then submit an appeal which you will see from the screenshot below, I have done, and so a moderator will check the review to determine whether it does follow the policies.
What’s interesting is that this review and the other non-approved, is for Nouméa, a city of the French special collectivity of New Caledonia and you may recall I had particular problems with reviews and photos of that I had contributed for POIs in France. I now wait for the moderation process. Anyhow, like you, I am happy to see that we are now getting improved communication.
I do understand the problem you mention @gmapas when you are a volume contributor with lots reviews and you never know when or which ones are published or hidden and yes it does take a lot of manual work to identify hidden both reviews and/or photos. I also agree with you with the need for filters and this has been mentioned many before see for example More Filters on “Your Contributions”. The scrolling up and down is also a BIG issue for volume contributors and once again has been mentioned before see the discussion here.

I see that you have replied to @ErmesT 's editing suggestion and as @MortenCopenhagen has mentioned, you do raise some valid points. In particular, the impact of the date change, suggesting that you were at the POI on the editing date does have a number of possible negative outcomes which I experienced and reported some time ago!!
I’m sorry to hear thatthe fact that you might get hidden reviews has reduced your enthusiasm for writing them @SholaIB but I have to say that I have heard this many times before. Notwithstanding, it is important that Google provides better tools for volume contributors to manage their contributions and in this regard, I believe that this new review non-approval notification is a step in the right direction.
This upgrade is apparently [slowly] rolling out worldwide now.
I had a earlier preview only because I wrote some review in France, where the moderation was already active. At that moment however it was not possible to ask for a moderation of a single review. I really like this new opportunity, that will at least help to be aware of our hidden reviews
Thanks for clarifying @ErmesT . You will recall that France was the common denominator in problems with reviews that I raised in another forum many months ago! It’s great that this upgrade is now rolling out worldwide as like you, I also like this new advice which makes us aware of possible issues and gives Local Guides the opportunity to much more easily appeal and do so on a review by review basis.
I’m pleased to provide this update. As you can see from the screenshot that I have included below, the first of my two appeals has been approved and my review is now visible This proved to be a very quick and easy process so @SholaIB I encourage you to rethink about your strategy of not writing reviews for fear that they will be made hidden and somehow possibly suspend you as a Local Guide. @gmapas perhaps you might also consider this if and when you ever have reviews considered in violation of the contribution policies and made hidden.
