The North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) has designated June 15 as Nature Photography Day, the dayto promote the enjoyment of nature photography, and to explain how images are used to advance the cause of conservation and protect plants, wildlife, and landscapes both locally and globally. While this day is titled “National”, there is worldwide interest in celebrating this very special day. WIth the continuing effects of climate change, overdevelopment, pollution, and other human impact that threaten wildlife, plants, and habitats across the globe, we need this now more than ever before in the history of mankind!
So to celebrate Nature Photography Day I’d like to share some nature photos with you and as I love gardens, especially botanical gardens and I usually head straight to them whenever I travel to a new city or country, I’ll start by sharing some garden photos. The first is one I took of the Dolphin Pond near the Dolphin Fountain at the children’s playground at the Fitzroy Gardens in East Melbourne. The second is of a Bird of Paradise from a friend’s garden. My third photo, while not a garden photo but is still a nature photo, is that of an Albatross I managed to snap in full flight off the coast of Ecuador. According to National Geographic, these feathered giants have the longest wingspan of any bird—up to 11 feet! …and Albatrosses use their formidable wingspans to ride the ocean winds and sometimes to glide for hours without rest or even a flap of their wings.
Join me: I do hope you’ll join me and share a photo from your home area or your travels to celebrate Nature Photography Day.

Edited: As I have mentioned in my replies below to the earlier commenters, I do appreciate that some will not have heard or know about Nature Photography Day so at least this post makes you aware of it and I’m confident that you’ll agree with me that by sharing a piece of nature from our respective parts of the world is a beautiful way for us Local Guides to participate. So do join in and tell us about a piece of nature in your corner of the world.
This is actually my first time of hearing about Nature photography day. I love nature and i learn so much by paying much attention to it which is often ignore.
Anyway it is not yet June 15th here in Nigeria, but i will surely add mine too when it is. Cheers!
Yes I do appreciate that because of time zone differences, it will not necessarily be 15 June in all the places that my fellow Local Guides live. If this is the case for you then at least it gives you time to plan and if need be take your nature daysnap. The other thing is that this makes those that don’t know about this designated Nature Photography Day, aware of it and I’m sure that you’ll agree with me that it’s a beautiful way for us Local Guides to participate by sharing a piece of nature from our different parts of the world. I can’t wait to see your photo and story about it @Nuhuu .
Yes many will not be aware of this designation for 15 June so this post serves to raise this awareness. Thanks for participating and sharing your lovely photo of Yosemite National Park @jayasimha78
@Sophia_Cambodia Yosemite, you will get different perspective in different seasons. If you go in Spring depending on the rain/snow in the winter, all water falls will be amazing to see. Summer is great for camping. Fall, you can see the leaves changing colors. In winter you can enjoy the snow. These trees will probably stay the same, but you may see some snow in winter.
Thanks for sharing this great post on a great topic @AdamGT I love to take photos of nature while I get any scope. I will try to remember this day in the future. Regards.
Hello @AdamGT i came to know first time about Nature Photography Day from your post. All photos are very beautiful. Thanks for sharing it with us . I will soon share a post about Nature Photography Day and tag you. Thanks again.
Nature Photography Day, June 15th (every year) is to explain the importance of conservation and protection of plants, wildlife, and landscapes both locally and globally, through nature photography, and to explain how images help this noble cause.
On behalf of #TeamIndia, we would also request all to join our hands to express our support to our “Mother Nature” through “Your Nature Photography”.
I agree with you and fully believe that local guides all over the world should work hand in hand to save our mother nature. It is very much needed for our own existence. I feel honor for your tagging me to see the beautiful photos you added. Regards.
That’s an interesting photo @Sophia_Cambodia . If I didn’t know better I would have thought that those buffaloes are practicing or have been trained in social distancing in today’s Coronavirus days.
Thank you @RamboRazor . That’s a beautiful photo of Lodhi Gardens in New Delhi, India. It’s a mirror reflection! Thank you for adding it as your photo in this Nature Photography Day post.
