My reviews are not showing publicly. Please help

From the past few weeks, whatever I review in detail, it’s not showing to others, but visible to me only. My account is not private, still my latest reviews are not publicly published

Hi @James232B

I can confirm from your public profile that you have added 43 reviews and only 37 of them are public.

Google has automatic filters that hide your reviews so only you can see them. This can happen when some of your reviews violate the review guidelines.

Read about typical review guideline violations here. And please see my latest post called 4 Tips on writing better reviews. And this post by ErmesT explains in more details why Google is hiding reviews.

If you are on a Desktop use this link to Count your hidden contributions. From a mobile device use this link.

If you want to identify which of your reviews are hidden check this post.

Please use the form called Account Investigation for contributions not visible on Google Maps if you believe that some of your contributions have been wrongfully unpublished. Keep in mind, it takes several weeks for the check to be done, and you will not be notified about the result, so I suggest you check the status of your reviews once a week or so.

I noticed from your public reviews that you often explain the location in the review text. This is unnecessary since Google Maps provide much more accurate location information.

And try always to prove you have been there in the text. Describe something unique and interesting that only visitors can know.

Best of luck
Morten

Thanks, I’ve made some changes. But whenever I try to upload any photo or video, it always say “Your media upload is pending”. Even tried cleaning cache. Still no result. Any solution for this.

It would be very helpful if you would use the tagging tool when replying to someone here on Connect. Type @ followed by the username. Type slowly. Then we get an e-mail notification and you are more likely to get a prompt reply. Just hitting Reply does not ensure we get notified by email.

Please try without photos. If successful you know that your issue is related to your photos

Cheers

Morten

@MortenCopenhagen Apologies for my indecent writing previously. I’ve tried posting review without photos, and it’s successful. But anytime I upload any photo in solo post or in any written review, it fails to upload. Can you please tell me is there any specific requirements for photos and videos , like resolution, size, etc?

Regards

James

No problem at all, @James232B

It is good news that you able to publish your reviews without the photos.

Why don’t you publish your reviews without the photos and then try adding the photos directly to the places not attached to the review.

Cheers

@MortenCopenhagen this was so helpful. I just completed a long vacation and just noticed many of my reviews have the “upload pending” message and are not showing. Looks like I’ll have to go back and fix somethings.

Hi @James232B , regarding @MortenCopenhagen 's suggestion “Why don’t you publish your reviews without the photos and then try adding the photos directly to the places not attached to the review.”:

Juts recently, I decided never to attach any photos to a review anymore. For me, there are several reasons for that:

  • If my review is refused for some words in the text, I realize it immediately and can work on it (instead of asking myself was it the text or one of the photos?)
  • If a photo is refused, I know instantly which one, while the other images and the review still remain published. Then I decide to either remove the photo and accept the denial or crop it and try again, if I see a possibility that might help. The latter did work in the past by removing a person, a traffic sign or some text in the picture.
  • (Possibly, only useful for me): I try to keep track of all my posted photos by recording the permalink (“quick link”?) provided it My contributionsPhotos → [click once on the place name] → [select Share under the photo (not the review!)->[Copy Link] ]. The resulting link allows me (only at the desk top) to find each photo together with the number of views and a marker, in case it was refused later. This is not possible for photos attached to review. While I can get a link to the review, I don’t see the number of views for each attached image. Both cases allow me to remove a photo from being published if necessary, which is my main reason to keep track of all posted images.
