Multiple ways to contribute towards 'Accessibility' using Google Maps

Accessibility :wheelchair: is one of the many reasons I joined the Local Guides program. I am a proud team member of #oneacessibility team and love contributing towards this noble cause. Its my dream and I am sure that 'Together we all can contribute and make this world a better and inclusive place for all !’

Thankfully , when it comes to helping people with special needs know , if a particular place is accessible or not , we as Local Guides have Google Maps with its amazing features that we can use ! We all know that we ,as Local Guides , have an edge over others as we come to know about the amazing features Google maps has to offer and their best optimum use to help others.

Lets see how we can help them !

Here in this video you can see many amazing ways to help someone with special needs know if a place is accessible or not using Google Maps. New local guides can learn, the existing users can refresh their knowledge :

In case if you are unaware of what kind of Accessibility contributions need to be done in your country, do check for ‘Accessibility laws in your country’ and then see how you can help or contribute. As a London Local Guide, I am aware the Accessibility Laws in UK and I do my best to create Accessibility Awareness of people via knowledge sharing during the meet-ups. I also keep adding relevant Accessibility data like review , creating lists, etc on Google Maps which would help people and make my city Accessible for everyone.

If you have questions, suggestions or contributions, feel free to drop a comment below. Do check the list of other articles under “Accessibility Uncovered”. Learn more about our project and team at oneaccessibility.org

If you are already contributing towards accessibility 'K__udos to you and continue doing so regularly’ and if you are not then ‘Are you ready to start the momentum and help someone with special needs roam around anxiety-free and enjoy life just like others in your area’ ?

Thank you for this post, @Globe_trotter_Ish , that will hopefully help a lot of people, addressing the community to the contributions about accessibility.

I keep remembering, as if it were yesterday, the first time I had a post about accessibility featured on the official Local Guides social channels, on 2017.

From that moment, having a disabled on my family, I started to run my program for an accessible life. On October 2017 I had the opportunity to meet Sasha, the initiator of the accessibility program in Google Maps. On 2018 I introduced Sasha to Emeka. I am so happy that, from that moment, Emeka wanted to run tirelessly to the program, transforming an idea in the amazing movement that you are showing now to the newcomers.

I still running my own project for an accessible life , hopefully I will be able to show some updates on Connect soon.

Thank you again for showing the way to the Community

@Globe_trotter_Ish I am excited to see your advocacy already happening in London. It shows the passion you have for accessibility and it will be awesome to follow your journey. Google Maps surely is a vehicle to take us through.

Just like Ermest after meeting Sasha, he challenged me to take the initiative to the next level and One Accessibility was born. Firstly, I became inspired to do this courtesy of @TraciC . The moment I read about global a11y meetup she hosted. I knew that’s what I wanted to really do on Maps. The rest is history.

Thanks to everyone that has been part of the journey.
