Finally got back to Midland Ontario and as promised took a photo of the largest Historical Mural In Canada, . It depicts a Jesuit priest and a native from somewhere around the 1640’s. This enormous mural is painted on a grain tower and measures 80 feet high and 250 feet wide. When painted it was the largest mural in Canada, Not any more.
The 2nd photo shows the actual size of the building at the port.
3rd Shows the great lake cruise ships which transported passengers around the great lakes from big cities to small picturesque towns and vacations. Cruise sailing is still a big business today on the great lakes.
4th photo is winter in the harbor, if the ice wasn’t too thick they would use horses to break up the ice so that the ships could get closer to port.
5th photo is the Midland harbour and piers from the early 1900’s
Midland is famous for it’s murals, There are over 33 murals in the town of Midland, I still haven’t found them all, It’s also very famous for its butter tart festival, held every summer.
Butter tarts are a Canadian tradition dating back to the early 1900’. Bakeries today are graded and noted for their home made butter tart, Recipes may include pecans, raisins, walnuts or many more items but the key ingredient is butter.
Here’s a photo of typical Butter Tart
Logging was and still is a very important industry in Canada, The next one is from Gravenhurst Ontario.
