It’s been quite a while since I posted one of my street Mural art posts.
A little history. I like to visit small towns in my home province of Ontario Canada. For years I drove or walked past these murals. Since I got into taking photos for local guides I really began to appreciate this art. You can click on my past submissions below.
That was a delightful tour! The murals are so vibrant and truly capture the unique spirit of each town. @TerryPG
Thanks for sharing these beautiful discoveries!
wow cool mural. i really appreciate the ability of mural artists who can express their artistic soul in a very wide field and exposed to various weather. besides high artistic soul also need qualified knowledge about quality paint material that is weather resistant. thank you for sharing it here @TerryPG
Oh man, @TerryPG, I’m so glad you fired this series back up. It’s such a treat to see these communities support and preserve their public art. The dog in the 4th image from Whitby is great. Thanks for hunting these down!
Thanks a lot for your pictures and descriptions, @TerryPG!
I also often take photos of murals, but the title “Small towns” reminded me of Mugnano, Umbria, Italy a single small village which had 47 murals, when we last saw it. The paintings are part of a concept, to bring this medieval town back to life when it was in danger of extinction.
Following the idea of a local artist, the village invited a painter every year since 1983 to create a new mural. A tile next to each of those shows a description with the date and the name of the artist.
Vice versa, @TerryPG: I keep all my photos on my disks (now SSDs) and store as much additional information as possible about them in a Daminion database. The minimum is the date, country, region and city, but must carry many more tags, for example the link to an album on Google Photos. Those (768!) albums are mostly for a region or a city, but some by other topics.
You’ve got a serious system going on here! With so many posts about people wanting free Photos storage, you’re in a league of your own with this. Very interesting. You’ve shared some amazing photos of Mugnano. Thank you for those!
Thank you for the compliments, @JustJake!
Regarding:
I still prefer to keep the originals on my local storage. In addition, I create albums in Google Photos for sharing and as a “worst case backup”. I believe, I created the first online album 19 years ago, after a colleague mentioned Picasa to me. After the sunset of Picasa, all albums were automatically moved to Google Photos.
For many years, I kept the photos in albums with their original size, but since Google changed its charging policies in 2020 (or 2021?), I only upload a reduced size. So in spite of the many photos, I pay less than 10$ for the cloud storage yearly.
