Great phone @berndkorz .

Thanks for the info. We will investigate internally.

Let me know if you need some debugging stuff.

I experienced something very similar: I receive requests to review places I visited, but years ago and already wrote reviews in the past. Is this related, is this a different issue, or known issue and you are working on it? Sorry, but upon research, I found way too many confusing statements about it.

Thank you in advance for the replies.

Turning off notifications to review places is not a solution to this problem. It’s not even a good workaround! We’re local guides because we want to review local places and help people who ask questions about them. If we turn off notifications we might as well give up being guides.

This is not a new problem. Being unable to permanently dismiss a review request has not worked in at least 5 years (because that’s how long some of these requests I keep trying to get rid of have been showing up in my phones) and, so far as I can tell, ā€œI’ve haven’t been hereā€ has never done anything but return ā€œThere has been an error. Please try again.ā€ as a small popup at the bottom of my PC screen or just do nothing at all using the Android app. This goes for the 7 different phones I’ve had over the past five years using three different (current at the time) versions of Android and properly updated versions of the app, current (at the time) versions of Chrome, and on six different laptops I currently own running every version of Windows since XP Pro (and several distros of Linux) using every major browser (all the most current versions possible), and the three different desktop PCs I own (all home built), including the one this is being written on that’s running the most up-to-date version of Win 10 Pro (system is set to check for updates hourly as this is my main PC for checking software compatibility issues with software that I write) and the most up-to-date version of Chrome and several other browsers. All ad blockers are disabled when trying to use the ā€œdismissā€ or ā€œI haven’t been thereā€ functions. I’ve even tried it using a virtual machine with my AV disabled and a freshly installed version of Chrome. Dismissed places go away until a screen refresh, then come back and clicking ā€œI haven’t been hereā€ returns the aforementioned error.

Now, instead of offering ridiculous advice such as turning off notifications, victim blaming, or asking for ultra-specific iterations and parameters of every device experiencing these issues (which would apparently be every device on the planet except yours), how about getting us an actual solution to the problem that includes both functions working as they should work. I don’t think that’s too much to request, but if it is, count me out as a local guide because I’m tired of being nagged to rate and review places I have never been to and likely never will go to.

Hi @KatyaL

Thank you for your answer. However, what you mention as a solution it is not a solution but just a way to hide the problem.

I couldn’t agree more with what @BWB have just commented.

Hi @Felip , @BWB ,

Thanks both for your answers and feedback.

As I have already commented a few days ago, we are currently investigating this issue and I would like to ask you for the following information:

  • What type of device you were using while encountering the issue? If it was a phone, please confirm the OS.

  • What is the version of Google Maps app you are using?

  • Have you tried if the same issue appears when you are using your PC and what type of PC?

  • What is your browser on PC and on your phone that you are currently using?

Thanks in advance!

I may be jumping the gun here, but with the introduction of the ā€œBeta - photos and reviewsā€ the problem seems to have been resolved, at least for me.

Hi @KatyaL ,

As BWB mentioned, I think this issue is not related to the device. However…

  • What type of device you were using while encountering the issue? If it was a phone, please confirm the OS.

Both a phone (Nexus 5 with Android Kit Kat and then Android Lollipop, and then Samsung Galaxy S7, currently with Android 8.0) and PC (ubuntu 16 and Windows 10, trying with Chrome, Firefox and Opera).

  • What is the version of Google Maps app you are using? The newest one:10.16.3.

  • Have you tried if the same issue appears when you are using your PC and what type of PC?

Yes it does. As I mentioned, I tried with multiple computers using different versions of ubuntu and Windows.

  • What is your browser on PC and on your phone that you are currently using?

I’m using Firefox, Chrome (latest version) and Opera. I’m using those 3 in both my PC and my phone.

Yes recognized the same. Looks really like…

Then you’re really lucky, @Chalky9 , as it’s still not working for me, and believe me, I tried quite a few times!

Hi @Felip , @berndkorz , @NickFromNorway and @P0ffee ,

Could you please confirm if you still experience the same issue with the option ā€œI haven’t been hereā€ not working? Are you still receiving notifications to review places you never visited even though you dismissed or marked ā€œI haven’t been hereā€.

Please tag me in your reply. Thanks in advance!

@KatyaL it was gone for a moment but is back again :frowning:

Hi @P0ffee ,

You’re welcome! Thanks for your confirmation that everything is back to normal now.

Hi @KatyaL , is this still being investigated? I turned off notifications as I got tired like others of receiving requests from places I haven’t been. However, I like to go into my contributions ever so often and provide a lot of reviews when I have the time. I’ve experienced everything others are mentioning on a couple different phones and both of my computers. Today I went in to a review a lot of recent places after some travels and I spent half the time trying to click ā€œdismissā€ or ā€œI haven’t been thereā€ only for items to literally pop right back up. It is becoming very frustrating trying to regularly provide reviews if I am constantly being asked to review places I have either already reviewed (just didn’t want to leave comments), places I try to dismiss as I feel no reason to review, or places I have not been.

thanks

Hi @John_K7 ,

I am running on Windows 10 using Google Chrome and browsing to the website so version is irrelevant. Chrome is automatically updated so it is always the latest version. I have had this problem for 2+ years over many different versions of Windows 10 and Chrome.
