Mapping Hidden Roads in My Green Village: Seeking Tips for Acceptance!

Hello Folks ,
Recently , I am trying to contribute to the google maps with missing places and roads of y green rural village . As my village is too much covered with trees , it has become next to impossible to map them with satellite. But I know them perfectly as I was raised there .
My request is :
Please give me some suggestions for Google to accept by mapping .

*Note : now I am far from my village and is unable to prove with photos .

Ciao @zidan90 ,

Ciao

Hello @zidan90 welcome to the Local Guides Connect community!

Although @MarcoDavoli has much more experience with road edits than I do, I’d like to add a couple of tips:

  • Always start at a road, which already exists on Google Maps. Never attempt to add a road which starts and ends in “nowhere” (according to existing Maps)
  • Start with extremely short pieces. Once accepted, you can add a new piece starting at the point, where the first ended.
  • When trees are covering the road, first add a piece ending exactly where the trees start. After that was approved, add a new piece crossing the trees.
  • Don’t provide a name, when adding a new part. You can do so later, after approval.
  • Keeping the above in mind, add as many pieces as possible. It seems, the more road edits are done in certain are, the more likely , they are approved.
  • Don’t give up too soon - it needs time.

I am currently trying to add walking trails to a park. After nothing worked for a long time, suddenly the approvals keep coming one, two or three daily. Whenever a piece is approved, I add a new little piece to that, but there are still more than 30 edits pending, some of them possibly not accepted without me being aware of.
The orange dots show the pending edits, the white are approved, many of those by myself:

Thanks for tag me dear @WilfriedB !

@zidan90 ,
just to let you know how many test we did to understand “how far” can we go with editing under the trees or in the shadow ?

This was presented during a virtual meet-up .

Look at this image.
Did you think that is possibile to draw a street under those trees?

You must be really carefull and draw NOT a straight line / roads but different segment of the road by “clickking” in every stop where you see a small piece of road. Do not ask me why! I did it many times but this was the only way I fond to succes.
Have a look

and this is the final result!

an approved road!

Look for TRAC post in connect and follow our virtual meet-up ! We will be happy to have you on board.

Take care
Marco

Ciao @MarcoDavoli thank you for this example.
Two questions regarding your second screenshot:

  • Even though the points you set were not on a strait line, the blue line generated by Maps before submitting the request was strait?
  • Did you add those six points as part of a single edit request? I was assuming, chances for a quick approval are higher for very short segments.

Ciao @WilfriedB ,
sorry, my fault not to be more precise.
I have done so many test (trees, shadow, zig zag, 0 contrast “street in the sand”, exceptionally long roads, few inches roads and so on) to understand how far can I go with “risky edits”.
So, the second screen shot:

  • in reality that line was draw by me with “photos edit” because I forgot to take the screenshot
  • When I edited this road I draw a “strait line” because for me the road is strait
  • Those six points are marking the moment / place where , while drawing the road I click the mouse. As you see I do each time I see a clear area among the trees. In this case 4 time (plus start and end)

After 120.000 added roads I did not yet understood how the system works. Sometimes I voluntary do Zig Zag roads and the system accept it “as it is” and in other case the system simply correct and replace with a strait line.

But.. in the case of trees, shadow or low contrast adding different points seems helping the system.

Let me know

Ciao
Marco
