Local Guides Movers & Shakers

Yes, dear friend @AdamGT , your points are clear.

Of course, as mentioned by LG @gadgetguyz , I too must update my records more frequently.

Thanks…

I’ve been looking at my numbers as I get ready to update. There is a difference between what I see on my Pixel phone and my Chromebook. Is this unusual?

Dear @tony_b , thank you for appreciating my comment. Your Average Views/Photo and Delta Views/Photo data look very impressive, especially since you don’t live in the busiest city.

And yet if we compare your data with those of some other Local Guides, you, like me, have someone to fear. Here is an example, @Kurt2day and @TiffanyStockstill have an Average Views/Photo below yours (Kutr2day has 19,698, TiffanyStockstill has 19,442 and you have 20,235), but if we compare the Delta Views/Photos of the three of you, then Kurt2day and TiffanyStockstill have more impressive numbers, equal to 2,153 and 2,103 respectively, and your number is 680. The day is not far off when Kurt2day and TiffanyStockstill will overtake you in Average Views/Photo.

As far as keeping track of red star stats, I find it more productive to focus on how to make a new star.

Tony_b, I hope I didn’t bore you with my thoughts.

Hello @Rednewt74 . Yes, a few of us have noticed this and brought it up to @AdamGT . That is why now when you enter your Maps data in the 100system, you have to pick between Desktop Web App or Mobile App.

@EvaBar ,

Ahhh. I thought it was just different interface for each system. The last 24 hours my overall numbers have been unstable and views on some individual photos have gone down. Maybe it just me switching devices but I don’t think so. I’ll keep an eye on it.

Thanks for your response.

Dear @MortenCopenhagen , I wanted to intervene in the discussion between you and @AdamGT . More specifically, to talk about your suggestion to introduce a new metric “How many views per day?” To be honest, I also thought about the existence of such a metric. But if you think about it, then introducing this metric “How many views per day?” doesn’t make much sense, since it is proportionally correlated with the Delta View column. You just need to divide all the indicators of local guides by 30 and everyone will remain in their places in the ranking.

P.S. I’m blown away by the way you clearly :nerd_face: articulated the meaning of each of the Movers and Shakers leaderboards.

@katydarhel

Great point, maybe the delta per day should just replace the delta per month.

I just think it is easier to relate to per day than per month. The length of the months wary and my brain is not used to devide by 31 :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Cheers

Dear @MortenCopenhagen , thank you for sharing this incredible lgstats site. I didn’t even know it existed.

I’m just shocked :astonished: that this site keeps statistics on 153 thousand Local Guides. And it was very nice to find among this huge rating of local guides, whom we know very well. I found @TerryPG with 1.18 Billion views in 42nd place, @TorM with 4.55 Billion views in (just think!!!) in 8th place and you dear MortenCopenhagen with 1.12 Billion views in 48th place.

And yet there are clear advantages to @AdamGT 's statistics over this global lgstats.xyz system. Yes, in Adam’s tables we compare our data with only a few hundred Local Guides. But there are some statistics that I think are unique. These are Average Views/Photo, Star Photos, Delta Views and Delta Views/Photo. It is these leaderboards that give us an understanding of the quality of our contribution.

Thank you for providing another opportunity to compare our data with other Local Guides!!!

@katydarhel

You are welcome.

I think the only metric that is unique to Adam’s leaderboards here on Connect are the self-reported star photo views that can not be harvested by a scraper bot. The historic view is very nice on the xyz site. And the ranking nationally and internationally is fun to study.

All the best

Morten

@JustJake don’t be concerned because @katydarhel is aware of anyone that is doing well, My nickname for her is “The Detective”

Hi @katydarhel I for one, am not a fan of the Lg Stats, None of their stats can be verified, we don’t know if the top users are scammers, buyers or sellers of such, maybe they steal photos, reviews etc, we just don’t know and there is no way of finding out and its not very accurate , Are their profiles public? We don’t know. I took a brief glance and so many of out top guides are not included in their top guides.

To my good friend @MortenCopenhagen I also believe this copy cat stat place should not be mentioned on @AdamGT leaderboards discussion area.

@katydarhel :zap: Your insights provide additional resources for the Delta Points System breakdown, not boredom so thank you. Stay Awesome. :star2:

Thanks for your response @katydarhel

I may have said it to @AdamGT before, but my problem with “making a new star” is that the gap between my #1 photo and my #2 photo is VERY wide. Although #2 is growing at a good rate, it is still going to be a long time before it takes the place of #1. Other new fast-growing photos in my list are still in the early stages of their life and cannot be easily visualized as serious contenders for first place in the near future.

@TerryPG Top100 gives you way too much details and you have the best of the guys to compare yourself with. For example take star photos ratings you can look at the top score and notice why some photos would stay star for longer before turning red.

@MortenCopenhagen In advanced features there are more like Core Vitals and Health check. I wonder if you have tried those ?

I join the interesting comparison on the validity of the statistics and their sometimes “obsessive” use.
Like all indicators (in my work I find myself using KPIs to measure and evaluate every day), I also believe that the values of one’s own Local Guide profile compared with those of others should be used to understand and improve one’s contribution to the community of Google users Maps, which I think is one of the most beautiful tools that the internet era has given us.
My generation (I’m in my twenties with a few decades of experience…) used paper maps to find their way in unknown lands, exactly like the explorers of the era of the famous Christopher Columbus of Genoa.
With the advent of Google Maps everything has changed: so what is the contribution of Local Guides for?
Referring to the concept of “collective intelligence”, our contribution serves to make Google Maps a unique place, where you can not only find the right path, but also the most up-to-date one, with new roads not yet mapped added, with new shops opened or closed , with routes closed to traffic, etc.
Google Maps, thanks to our photos, will be able to make everyone aware of particular corners of the places we have visited, and - thanks to our judgments - whoever intends to go to a restaurant or shop will be able to have our opinion on it.
Sometimes there is not enough time to contribute as much as we would like, but every effort is amply rewarded by the satisfaction of having rendered a service to others, and therefore having contributed to making the world a little better than we found it.
As in real life there are dishonest people, the judgments may also be false, and the photos posted may not concern the pinned place, but the ever increasing number of LGs will be able to easily unmask these people (or avatars).
Going back to the stellar photo statistics and all the other rankings, I believe that the excellent work that @AdamGT has been doing for years is a wonderful tool to compare ourselves with the “best-in-class”, to understand if the most viewed photos refer to particular perspectives or not (whole/external, vertical/horizontal), and whether it is better to post a very large number of photographs or whether to favor quality over quantity.
Personally, I’ve changed my mind several times (he who doesn’t change his mind can’t change anything, wrote George Bernard Shaw), thanks to the very useful T100 system by the aforementioned @AdamGT , which already now offers many views.
Certainly there are other comparison tools, such as the one mentioned by @MortenCopenhagen , but I agree with @TerryPG that - apart from the doubts about their real usefulness - their mention in this discussion area of @AdamGT 's rankings is somewhat inappropriate, being his guests .
A hug to all the LGs from Rome, Italy.

Euhhh… thanks for mentioning my alias @katydarhel . I’m a bit surprised about the figures you mention.

My only hope is that at least some of my photos will ‘help’ people visualize better what they may expect when they look for something on G Maps. When a photo is viewed by somebody, it does not necessarily/automatically mean that the image was useful or (stylistically/photographically) good. There are many misunderstandings around this topic. It’s a simple photo of a place.

Anyway, congrats to @TiffanyStockstill and all the others of course.

Have a nice day :slightly_smiling_face:

I just wanted to say how excited I am reading all the comments in this new Movers & Shakers post. It’s this engagement, and detailed and in-depth discussion that makes all this is so powerful and really interesting. Some of this discussion is to a depth that I could only imagine and I just want to thank all you nerds all of you for this as it really makes this all so worthwhile. Like the star photos boards, because of the complexities mentioned in the readme notes, the Movers & Shakers boards are somewhat difficult to produce but I’m hoping that I can make them a regular monthly feature, and maybe even better than what they already are. In just a few days time we’ll know :sunglasses:

This being the EOFY (End Of Financial Year @LightRich ) and with everything happening in my private life, I cannot reply to everyone’s comments at this moment but I will come back and do so as soon as I can. However, because of the misinterpretation of the data I see in the discussion between @katydarhel and @MortenCopenhagen here, I want to urge everyone to read the readme notes of this Movers & Shakers post more closely. As soon as I can I will say more.

Keep up the great discussion and engagement and above all, enjoy.
