  1. Please find my star photo above
  2. My “Star” picture was shot on October 5, 2018 as per my Google Maps Timeline and uploaded one week later on October 12, 2018; This photo has 687, 536 views. Of the 684 days since up-loading on October 12, 2018, and the average is 1005 views per day
  3. This is not my best quality photo submission nor does it contain the most interesting content but I took this picture purposefully over my husband’s shoulder because it seemed that everything in the room seemed to flow and interact with the angle of my perspective which made me focus and wonder on why she was alone. The viewer realizes I was with my partner but in that moment, this is what I felt.
  4. The Star photo has more views because it is unusual to see a blond-haired foreigner sitting in one of the very few Vegan Restaurants in Taiwan. Its success is that it evokes thoughtful curiosity and the flow of the imagery moves the viewer very naturally from over my man’s shoulder and makes you focus on the person eating alone.
  5. A “Star Photo” is Where the imagery connects to ideas that come together creating moments that touches some personal experience in a truly interesting or beautiful and moving way.
  6. I was using a Samsung Note 5, now I use the Note 9
  7. I have submitted over 610 photos and have a total of 2,683,916views

Hello @AdamGT ,

Iam very excited to be a part in your photography idea. I love taking pictures of different locations.

  1. Below is my “star photo”:

    Caption: My most viewed photo

  2. The Maps Category of my Star Photo is my school i.e; Poornima Vidya Niketan High School and the photo is just a quick snap taken outside from the gallery of building.

  3. I took/uploaded this photo on: Actually I took this on 12 April 2018 since i was not the local guide then i couldn’t upload it at that time. When i started my journey as a local guide i uploaded this in the maps on 20 February 2020.

  4. Is it my best photo? As you will see it’s nothing special really. It’s by far not my best photo! As i have many best photos apart from it which i have not posted yet in maps. It’s not a photo of an amazing sunrise, or sunset, or an amazing landscape, building, or sculpture! It’s just a School photo I took outside!!!

  5. Why do I think it’s my “star photo”? The photo was just a point and shoot taken without much thought , I really have no idea why it’s my “star photo” but I’m keen to learn more and start clicking more quality photos like this. Through my star photo many people can able to search best infrastructure school with good quality of education.

  6. Why is it important: This photo is really close to me since i have completed my studies from 1-10 class in this school. I have lot of memories there. It’s not just the school its the building which has grown me up and take me to the other side of education. It has given me opportunity to achieve my dreams.

  7. The camera I used is: Iphone 5S

  8. My total number of photos is: 40

  9. My total number of photos views is: 26,660

  10. My analytics on Google maps till date is shown below.

Thank You.

Hi @Shrut19

Thanks for your star photo details. Your Maps link is broken but if you wouldn’t mind saving me time could please provide the missing information as detailed in the steps mentioned in the opening post. Just edit your previous comment with the missing information. You will find many examples of the correct format in the comments before this. Thanks for your understanding.

I really appreciate the effort you put in this post and my comment is not intended to be against your work in any way. I just wanted to say that in my opinion the most valuable photos are not the most viewed ones but the ones that gives more details about the subject in the photo. You have examples also in this post of photos of building facades shot while waiting for a bus that have millions of view but don’t really bring meaningful content. I believe the most important thing in a picture is the ability to make the viewer feel as if he or she was there, capturing the attention on characteristics unique of that place. Things that only who knows that place can show to the others, or things that will make us remember of that place after a visit. I think it’s better to have a single picture with a few views but it’s a good photo rather than many photos with millions of views which are taken randomly.

I repeat again I don’t want to criticize in any way, I just wanted to share my point of view with all of you.

Many photos here are great anyway :slightly_smiling_face:

Have fun and shoot safe!

Thanks for your appreciation and comment @pozzolana which, even though you didn’t tag me, I guess is directed primarily at me. You said “I think it’s better to have a single picture with a few views but it’s a good photo rather than many photos with millions of views which are taken randomly”. However, I believe it’s better to have a single or perhaps a few photos with millions of views which is a core point of this post and as I’ve mentioned in the post, being keen photographers we want more and more people around the world to see our great photos - hence we want more views! So this post is an attempt at fleshing out how we can improve the performance of our photo views on Maps. It’s more about performance and quality of our photo contributions and to learn how we can improve these. As many have found including myself, it’s often amazing which of all your great photos is our “star photo”! As in my case, my star is not a great photo, yet it has the most views! So why is this so? Is there a reason why sometimes the least expected photo can be the star? My hope is that by sharing and studying our photo performance data we can all learn and improve. I encourage you to re-read the post and if you want to improve the performance and quality of your photo contributions you will consider participating.

Hello @DarkWatch

When you reply to someone make sure you tag them by typing @ and then selecting their Connect username from the dropdown list as I’ve done here with your name, otherwise they will not get a notification of your reply and thus, may never know that you replied to them.

  1. Photo is below

  1. Maps Category: Recycling Centre, The photo is from within the recycling centre and shows a few different areas for waste disposal.

  2. Image captured Feb 2019. I got that date from google maps. See photo below.

    4. This is my most viewed photo, but definitely not my best. I’ve taken photos of rooftop bars with incredible views and tropical beach locations, some on professional DSLR cameras which have more aesthetically pleasing visuals. This photo boring at most, but framed well to give people are feel for the location.

  3. This is my Star Photo most likely because there are hardly any photos of this location, only 9. There are only 71 reviews, not all have written info, just the star rating. My photo shows a wider view of the place, is clear and includes areas of interest to those who may visit.

6.important factors that contribute to photo view stats: I think, clarity and quality of photo, framing of subject matter to including a wider view of the place. Also as there aren’t many of these public recycling centres, the catchment area of potential visitors is large. If there arent many photos already, it will most likely get bigger view numbers.

  1. The photo was taken on a Google Pixel 2 XL, I didnt spend time trying to get a good shot.

  2. I have posted 2,087 in total.

  3. Total number of photo views is 17,289,032

  4. All done!

Interesting idea @AdamGT ! Thanks for invitation! I’m pleased to join!

I’ll try to follow a standard format.

1. I’d like to share my “star photo” here.

2. The Maps Category of my Star Photo is Clothing store. This photo shows an entrance to the Zara store in a shopping mall [edited].

3. I took this photo on 6 June 2019. (Source: My Timeline).

4. Is this my best photo? I don’t think so. I took a lot of such kind of photos when I visited different places.

5. Why do I think it’s my “star photo”? I believe I was lucky that my photo was chosen as a covered photo for this place “outside view”. There are many photos of this place on Maps, most of them are “photos inside”.

6. I think the important factors that contribute to making a top photo are: popularity of place + featured as a covered photo.

7. The camera I used is: Samsung Galaxy A8+ (2018) mobile phone.

8. My total number of photos is: 3 456

9. My total number of photos views is: 14 067 716

10. Hope my contribution deserve Like   lolzz

Regards,

Jane

I Completely agree the points which @AdamGT has mentioned. The idea is to know our most viewed photo in google maps not the best photo among the posts which we have posted in maps. @pozzolana We can create an another thread like the “Best Clicks of Mine” so that users who are passionate about photography can post their best clicks among their google maps photos…

Hello everyone,

Today, 29 August 2020 at 11:25 EST, I updated our Leaderboards for the entries by@Artistwright, @DanieleN, @JaneBurunina, @Lukas_, @Ritu_Jangra and @Tranceme and for convenience these changes are shown in on the leaderboards. The updates were made based on the information provided by the new entrants who should check that I have correctly entered the details and let me know if there are any errors or omissions! If you supplied your photo data but are not included in Leaderboards, then you have not supplied all the information asked for or I’m still waiting on something from you. If this is the case then please re-read the post and update your comment/entry with the missing information. If you don’t supply all the information required then this makes my job much more difficult as I have to spend time and hunt for what’s missing.

Notes:

  1. Entries for participating Connect moderators (8 of) are shown in red.
  2. If you haven’t already done so then please read the comment about the Category of your Star Photo.
  3. This is a long post! If you’ve been disciplined with how you submitted your Maps photo details and have all the information in one comment then to make things easier for you to find your entry:
    (a) Start at the opening post,
    (b) Go down to Leaderboard #2
    (c) Click on your Connect Username, and
    (d) You should end up at your comment with your photo data (if not let me know).
  4. If your entry is messy and all over the place, spread across several comments then why don’t you take this opportunity to tidy it up and put it all in the one comment. If you do this then I will be able to add you to the convenient list of users as mentioned in point 3 above.
