Kotilingeshwara Temple – The Crore Lingas of Kolar

Nestled in Kammasandra village of Kolar district, Karnataka, the Kotilingeshwara Temple is a one-of-a-kind shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is famous for its massive Shivalinga of 108 feet and an equally grand Nandi statue of 35 feet, making it one of the tallest in Asia. Surrounding these giants are lakhs of smaller Shivalingas, spread across acres of temple land, which together create a breathtaking sight for every visitor.

The temple was founded in 1980 by Swami Sambha Shiva Murthy, who dreamt of building a place with one crore Shivalingas. Since then, thousands of devotees from across the country have been adding their own lingas, and the count continues to grow each year. Along with the main shrine, there are also smaller temples dedicated to other deities like Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma, Lord Ganapathi, and Goddess Annapoorneshwari.

Kotilingeshwara is not just a temple but also a spiritual and community hub. The premises include a meditation hall, marriage hall, and annadanam (free meals) center, making it a place where both devotion and social service go hand in hand. Festivals like Maha Shivaratri are celebrated here with great devotion, drawing huge crowds. The sight of lakhs of lingas together truly reflects the collective faith of countless devotees.

Located about 2–3 hours from Bengaluru, the temple is a peaceful getaway from city life. The calm atmosphere, divine presence, and unique setting make it a must-visit place in a lifetime. Visitors are requested to respect the sanctity of the temple, avoid littering, and keep the surroundings clean for future generations.
