Kampot - South Coast Area -Top Place to Visit in Cambodia

Hi Local Guide Community Connectors! Today, I would like to share my experience of some destinations that I have visited.

I knew that you all heard someone say, “Don’t go or visit Cambodia.” The question on a visitor‘s mind when visiting Cambodia is, “Not surprisingly, how safe is it?” The answer depends on what the visitor plans to do & where the visitor plans to go.

Cambodia has enormous potential as a travel destination. There are unspoiled beaches and islands along the south-west coast of the country. As Cambodia is a destination that can be visited any time of year. I’m sure you might want to plan your trip for your vacation.

So, I would like to share some destinations that I have experienced with you in the South Coast Area of Cambodia (the places I have been there)

Kampot province is on the Tuek Chhu River, a 148 km drive from Phnom Penh. There are many attractions that you can see and get the experience for your own.

In the town, the visitor could explore the Colonial Building and take beautiful pictures along the Preaek Tuek Chhu (Tuek Chhu River), like Seahorse at Kampong Bay Riverside, Clock Tower, Rainbow Bridge, Kampot railway bridge …

Bokor Hill Station

Bokor Hill Station is a mountaintop hill station of Preah Monivong Bokor National Park, (my experience on Local Guide) is famous for the pleasant climate, rushing streams, forested vistas, and stunning panoramas of the sea. It is 40 km from Kampot.

Kampong Samaki Community Fishery is
located in Kampong Nong and Kampong Tnaot

With the communities activities, there is a good place to see the sunset and relaxing with the smelling and sound of the sea.

Les Manguiers (Link) is a best accommodation and Les Manguiers is an amazing place to relax with the Nature and peaceful :blue_heart:. I been there 4 times. I had more experiences with the friendly people and Activities that the place provided. Accommodation and activities like Kayaking, swimming in the river, sunset, and other games playing with the team.

Great post @SengPheng !! And thanks for sharing Kampot to all of us!

I was also mildly amused to see the Durian in your photos! Yeah, it’s super popular in the South East Asian region.. it is the King of Fruits after all! And I’ve also learned that the word ‘Kampong’ is also used in various countries! I was really surprised to see that word used in Cambodia!!

Goes to show that there is always something new to learn!!

Thank you @AdrianLunsong

In Cambodia, the Khmer word Kampong (កំពង់) specifically refers to a place on a river or lake-shore where people can dock their boats—a port or landing bridge. Place Name Element: The word Kampong often appears as the first part of many Cambodian provincial and city names, signifying that the location is/was an important riverside or lakeshore landing or settlement, such as:

  1. Kampong Cham
  2. Kampong Chhang
  3. Kampong Speu
  4. Kampong Thom
  5. Kampong Som (Sihanoukville)

And some commune, districe and villages in Cambodial also use that word.
