Hello fellow Local Guides! If you are out reviewing places or adding photos today, you might notice something a little different on your phone. It’s not your eyes playing tricks on you—Google Maps officially has a new logo.
Google is rolling out a modernized gradient icon for Maps on both Android and iOS. Since we’re all staring at this app constantly, here is the quick rundown of what changed:
The Pin: The classic shape is there, but the top ring is noticeably thinner, and the inner circle is significantly larger.
The Colors: The old diagonal color blocks are gone, replaced by a blended, four-color gradient to match Google’s recent AI branding updates (just like we’ve seen on Search and Photos).
The Rollout: It’s starting to hit devices right now (Android version 26.09.06.873668274 and iOS version 26.09.5). Fun fact: you might still spot the old solid logo lingering inside the app for a bit!
Hi @MattSchepp,
I just updated the Google Maps app on my iOS device and noticed that the logo has changed!
This is the update you’re seeing in version 26.09.5 (released March 3, 2026).
The Google Maps logo keeps the familiar pin shape with Google colors, but the design feels cleaner and more modern. When opening the app, the loading screen now shows a simpler “Google Maps” branding with the updated style.
It’s a small change, but for people who use Google Maps every day—especially Local Guides who contribute photos, reviews, and map edits—these updates are always interesting to see.
Technology evolves step by step, and sometimes even a small design change shows how the platform keeps improving.
Have you noticed this update on your Android device yet?
Hi @MattSchepp Hello from Indonesia Thanks for the update! I love how you described it: ‘it’s not your eyes.’ It’s so catchy, it definitely makes Local Guides want to read this update, especially alongside the detailed information on the new logo
Could you please update the creative in your post to use an image that doesn’t feature the Google Maps pin or any other Google logo? You can still use the approved assets described in this topic.
