Introducing A More Concrete Reward System

Hi Google, I’m a Level 6 Local Guide with numerous contributions (reviews, photos, answers, etc.). I’d like to propose introducing a more concrete reward system, such as supermarket vouchers (e.g., Lidl, Aldi, SuperValu in Ireland) in exchange for points earned. I believe this would further encourage users to contribute quality content. Thank you for your attention!

Ciao Google,

Hello @Natty75,

Welcome to the local guides connect. Local guides receive perks based on their quality contribution towards Google Maps and the connect (here).

Hi @Natty75 there used to be rewards like this when the program kicked off to incentivise people before there was community. Today the community is reward in itself. By looking after your local content you give visitors to your area the best information on experiences and places in the same way you enjoy that when you travel or are looking for something new locally.

There are Connect Live events that you can get invited to if you stand out enough in your community endevours, but I must suggest they pick people who are looking after their community rather than seeking rewards for themselves.

If you are looking for tangible rewards for yourself you might find some other review programs more to your liking.

Paul

In my opinion such reward system will reduce quality contributions and increase spam contributions… local guides program is currently a volunteer based one … Everyone try to contribute because of passion or there intrest…only genuine people try to contribute now … It will all change if reward system is introduced

I agree with you that it would be nice to get some vouchers, gifts, etc. :star_struck: But keep in mind that it would be enormously difficult for Google to implement such a reward system worldwide for all Local Guides, because each country or state has different supermarket chains, legal aspects, and many other variables.
So, I don’t think it’s even possible .

What could happen if that were the case?

I took a look at your profile @Natty75, and you really have very few contributions. It might be a good idea to re-assess your proposal after you’ve had time to become more experienced on this platform.

I hesitate to add to the negative responses you’ve received so far, but my experience with online systems like this is that as long as there is a reward, there will be cheaters. What we do here now is voluntary, and our reward is the satisfaction of knowing that our contributions help many other users.
