Introduce Yourself — June 2026

You shouldn’t have asked this question on an entirely unrelated thread @Ukah, but I’ll just say briefly that you need to be doing something if you wish to move up levels. Your last uploaded photos were 4 years ago, and most were of people. You need to do places instead. Apart from a few recent reviews, that activity seems to have slowed down since 4 years ago as well.

If you need further help, please start a new thread. I’m not going to respond again here.

Hello @Ukah

Please note that since your post is an introduction, I’ve moved it to here, our monthly introduce yourself thread at you can better connect with other Local Guides. Thanks @tony_b for jumping in to guide @Ukah

Hi everybody!

My name is Alicia Bastarrachea, but I like you call me Aly. I have an educatioon degree.

My nickname is: Ay Barbie Q. My nickname comes form an excolleague. We were teaching in a school and I usually sign the homeworks of my students using my short name “Aly” and the fist letters of my family names “BQ” (from Bastarrachea Quiijano) and the teacher used to called my as the pronunciation of “BBQ”, so I take it with elegance and I transmute into “Barbie Q”

My native language is Spanish. I understand some French.

I’m from Mérida, Yucatán in México. Now I’m staying more in Palenque, Chiapas, Méx. by entrepreneurship something there. Here´s my location: Google Maps : https://maps.app.goo.gl/zxd129czyiEJ9eAj6

I’m a local guide—first and foremost, out of curiosity, to be honest. Later, it was because I realized that every contribution I make helps others know what to expect from a local business. Finally, it was because of my profession: I’m a tour guide and I travel a lot, so I visit many places, which allows me to get to know them and write reviews, take photos, and so on.

One of my favorite things to explore is NATURE, so I visit as many reserves as I can. I really enjoy look for those place and visit them when it’s possible for my own or for job reasons.

A fun fact about me is I’m a birding girl and now I have a property next to the National Park of Palenque and I’m in constant contact with nature and I’m so happy for that reason. I upload some videos of the birds and animal I see to my TikTok account: https://www.tiktok.com/@aly.barbie.q?_t=8qYJoZzHyXm&_r=, just in case you want to see some of the nature you can find in and around my place.

Now I’m level 7, and I hope to get to 8 soon. The most of the contributions I made is answering Q&A, but I have made posts and grade some place I visited, but they’re not all the places I have been.

One of my favorite places is the archeological site of Uxmal (in Yucatán) and Palenque (Chiapas) because they have history, culture, beautiful architectural characteristics and nature.

Here’s a review I made about Uxmal: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Qwz1BUep4mkNCRmq7

It’s a pleasure to meet you all!

Hello everyone!

My name is Waka-danna.

I run a chopsticks specialty store in Kappabashi Kitchenware Town, located near Asakusa, one of Japan’s most famous tourist destinations. Through Google Maps, I enjoy sharing information about food, dining, and local culture.

As with many tourist areas, Asakusa has plenty of restaurants that cater to visitors. However, there are also many amazing local eateries that are loved by residents and often overlooked by tourists. Some of these places have limited multilingual support, but they serve truly outstanding food and offer authentic local experiences.

Since I have been doing business in this area for many years, I also enjoy sharing recommendations about interesting places, hidden gems, and local insights that visitors might not easily find on their own.

I look forward to connecting with fellow Local Guides from around the world!

Thank you.

Hello @wakadanna8410 and a BIG welcome to Connect.

Thank you for sharing your introduction however please note that I am moving it to our monthly introduction topic so you can better connect with fellow Local Guides.

Having been to Japan twice I’m sorry that I didn’t make it to Asakusa which from your description sounds like an exciting place to visit.

There’s a phrase you should know when dining at a restaurant in Japan. It’s to say “Itadakimasu” in a slightly louder voice before you start eating.
While Japan doesn’t have a tipping culture, it places great importance on table manners. When customers say “Itadakimasu,” staff are more likely to treat them with care, which may lead to better service. At the very least, it drastically reduces the chances of being treated rudely.

Also, after you’ve finished your meal and paid the bill, try saying “Gochisousama” to the staff. This will likely make your day even more wonderful.
