Name: Navajyoti Borgohain
Location: Guwahati, Assam, India
What led me to become a Local Guide: Having spent more than a decade in the travel industry and traveling extensively across North East India, as well as countries such as Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Kenya, I realized I was already doing what Local Guides do…taking photos of places, judging restaurants and enthusiastically telling people where they should (and shouldn’t) go. Becoming a Local Guide was simply the logical next step.
My favorite thing to explore: Food joints, local culinary experiences and the hills of North East India top my list.
Beyond food, I am passionate about bike trips through the hills of North East India surrounded by the fascinating border regions of Tibet, Bhutan, Myanmar and the plains of Bangladesh where culture, history and nature come together in remarkable ways.
Fun fact about me: I moved to Guwahati just 3 years ago and the Brahmaputra River (a trans boundary river) has quickly become my favorite escape. These days, there is a good chance you will find me sitting by the riverbank watching the sunset, admiring the city lights and pretending I am deep in thought when I am actually deciding what to eat next. My relationship with the Brahmaputra is getting serious…I visit it more often than some of my relatives 
I am excited to be part of this community and look forward to sharing my experiences while learning from fellow Local Guides around the world.
(The attached photo of mine was taken near the India-Myanmar border with a former headhunter of Konyak Tribe in their traditional headgear and attire. The former warrior can be seen wearing a ‘tiger tattoo’ representing his animal familiar or soul)

What led you to become a Local Guide: I have always been a big fan of Google maps and the detailed reviews from others and decided that I would begin actively participating. I wanted to share my view of this beautiful area that I am blessed to live in and travel through. Many people travel through California to visit the “main attractions” when there are many little places that contribute to the diverse beauty of the area.
When traveling, I am always grateful to find a local guide, someone more familiar with the area than I am…and learn from them. I enjoy traveling and am curious about the wonderful creations and people in our world. We have so much to learn from each other and so little time.
Becoming a local guide is my way of showing appreciation for the beautiful things that we have, by highlighting them and sharing the beauty with others. I am looking forward to learning from other guides. I want to become better with my photography and videos of the places I share.
My favorite thing to explore: Living in Central California, we often travel to the High Sierra’s to enjoy the serenity and peace of the outdoors. We also enjoy spending time in our around the Pacific ocean. My wife and I have enjoyed traveling to the Philippines, Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago and the Hawaiian Islands. We eat local as often as possible, no chain restaurants for us.
Fun fact about me: I have lived in the Philippines and speak 2 dialects from the northern Luzon area. It was in the Philippines that my eyes were opened to the beauty that can be found in many other cultures, if we stop and listen. I was able to learn more about my heart by learning about others. Which set me on a lifelong path that begins each day.

Hi everyone, I’m Prasannah, based right here in Colombo.
After spending 20 years in international banking, I spend a lot of my time focusing on what I truly love: exploring the incredible depth of Sri Lanka. I travel around the island frequently, specifically looking for wildlife spots, nature reserves, and authentic local food experiences. When I am navigating around Colombo, I usually map and review locations I visit.
On Google Maps, my goal is to highlight off-the-beaten-path locations that people often miss on a standard itinerary.
Outside of mapping and traveling, I’m a dedicated student and practitioner of the Hindustani Tabla.
Looking forward to sharing my photos and connecting with other local guides in this community!

As I drive around the grocery stores I see the local vendors setting up booths for FIREWORKS! My mom her favorite is the long sparklers. I enjoy just about every firework.

What led you to become a local guide?: Small businesses in my area were invisible online. I started reviewing and adding photos so people could find them. Level 5 now, and I am still mapping so that local shops too will get the customers they deserve. I also love discovering hidden spots that doesn’t show up on the page of Google. Becoming a Local Guide gave me an opportunity to explore more while i help others discover too.

My favorite thing to explore: I review everything. Roads, food canteen, Shops, Mini mart, Businesses, Schools, Clinics, Hospital, Hotel… If it exists, it is getting photos plus honest review from me. I am an inquisitive being.

Fun facts about me: I have corrected wrong profiles on Google Maps. I once found an establishment that online profile says is into a different business, i visited the place and corrected it. I have also walked km just taking photos for Google Maps. I love taking pictures.
