Hi everyone! I’m Elyy, currently living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, but originally from the Philippines. Having moved across borders, I’ve learned firsthand how valuable accurate details are when you’re navigating a new city as an expat or traveler, which is why I love sharing insights that help newcomers feel right at home.
What led me to become a Local Guide was my own heavy reliance on Google Maps whenever I travel, relocate, or search for a good place to eat. One day, while looking for a place to settle down, I realized how much gratitude I felt for the strangers who took the time to upload clear food photos or leave practical tips. I wanted to pay that kindness forward by being a helpful, honest voice for others whether that means snapping photos of cozy coffee art or spotlighting hidden street food gems.
My absolute favorite things to explore reflect my twin passions. On one hand, I’m always on the hunt for the local food scene especially aesthetic, relaxing cafes with great lighting, peaceful vibes, and for getting things done or catching up with friends. On the other hand, I am a kind of person who loves a harmonious balance, I have a big adventurous side! I love escaping into nature, taking scenic rides, and soaking in sweeping mountain views above the clouds.
A fun fact about me is that I never let unpredictable or cloudy, chilly weather ruin an outdoor plan. Even if mist rolls over the hills and the sun hides, you’ll still find me standing happily among the green scenery with a big smile, ready to capture the moment. I genuinely believe every trip has its own charm, rain or shine! A huge thank you to the moderators for keeping this community so warm and organized. I’m looking forward to connecting with fellow guides from all around the world!

3. What led me to become a Local Guide:
I first got involved several years ago when I noticed how many “blank spaces” were on Google Maps in my own community — businesses, landmarks, and public buildings with no photos, and in some cases not listed at all. I knew how much easier it is to find a place when you can see what the outside looks like, so I started driving around my town and nearby small towns, taking photos and writing reviews to help fill in the gaps.
Later, as I began traveling more on my own, Google Maps became essential. As a woman in her 60s who often travels solo, having reliable photos, reviews, and answers from Local Guides gives me the confidence to explore new cities and plan entire trips. Because I depend on that information myself, I try to contribute the same level of detail and usefulness for others.
4. My favorite things to explore:
I love discovering local nature — parks, beaches, trails, quiet spots where I can sit and observe. I’m also drawn to historical sites that tell a city’s story. And of course, I’m always searching for great food: not tourist traps, but the places locals love because the atmosphere is welcoming and the meals are memorable.
5. Fun fact about me:
I’m a bird nerd through and through. Give me a quiet place, a pair of binoculars, and a few hours, and I’m perfectly happy photographing and watching birds.

For many years, I have been exploring the Pyrenees, documenting mountain summits, panoramic landscapes, and cultural heritage.
I enjoy sharing photographs, honest reviews, and panoramic views to help others discover beautiful places.
Besides contributing photos and reviews, I also enjoy improving Google Maps by adding missing places and correcting information whenever possible.
