Hi everyone! Welcome to Local Guides Connect. Please take a moment to introduce yourself to our community.
As “Introduce Yourself” threads can be lengthy, we start a new one each month and lock past threads. You can check previous threads, like December’s, to see who recently joined and where they’re from. We’ll merge any “I’m new” and “Hello world” posts we find elsewhere with this thread to keep things organized.
Do you want to be featured in our monthly Introduce Yourself posts? Share your introduction in the comments, following the five prompts below, and a horizontal photo of yourself (in landscape mode). The best introductions will be considered for future Introduce Yourself posts. *Please note: Your response may be edited for clarity. By taking part in this challenge, you agree to allow us to share your answers and photo(s) publicly here on Connect.*
This month, meet @leolin1994! Leo Lin is a Local Guide Level 8, and here’s what he shared.
1. Name: ChingYen, Lin (Leo Lin)
2. Location: Taiwan
3. What led you to become a Local Guide: I enjoy traveling and exploring delicious food, and I always take photos to document my experiences. Before every trip, I read reviews on Google Maps to help me plan my destinations. Being a Local Guide allows me to upload photos, videos, and reviews so more people can discover Taiwan’s beautiful scenery and amazing food.
4. My favorite thing to explore: My favorite thing to explore is great food. I like visiting restaurants to enjoy meals, and when I’m busy, I use food delivery services to discover new places to eat. I rate restaurants based on their interior design, service quality, and how good the food tastes, and then give them an appropriate star rating. Sharing delicious food with people who appreciate the same things is truly an honor for me.
5. Fun fact about me: Besides food, I also love natural landscapes — such as waterfalls, sunsets, and flowers. I often visit these places by following directions found online. However, information isn’t always up to date, and sometimes old directions can lead me to the wrong place.
One time, I wanted to visit a riverside spot to see the night view. I followed the MRT information online, but after exiting the station, I realized I was surrounded by land instead of the river. It turned out the station name had changed, and the real station I needed was in the opposite direction. I felt frustrated and amused at the same time.
To avoid this kind of situation, I now always double-check the exact location or GPS coordinates. After finally reaching the riverside and enjoying the night view, I made sure to share the correct station name on Google Maps so the next traveler wouldn’t get lost.
Nice to meet you, Leo Lin! Local Guides, don’t miss the chance to say hi to Leo Lin in the comments below and share your introduction, too.
