Goladi Mosque, Which was built in 1519 A.D by Mulla Hizbar Akbar Khan, this mosque is one of the most important surviving monuments from Sultanate period in sonargaon region.
It’s structure, Built with terracotta bricks, The exterior and arched entrances feature stunning, intricate arabesque designs. While the mosque is primarily constructed from terracotta bricks, its central Mirhab (the niche indicating the direction of prayer) is made of black basalt. This beautiful stone creates a striking contrast with the sorrounding brickwork.
But a 186-Year of Replacement Gap, the mosque you see today was actually abandoned for centuries, Due to lack of maintenance and natural causes, the local community began praying at a newly constructed neighbouring mosque in 1705 A.D, Nearly two centuries after the Goaldi Mosque Was Built.
And the Goladi Mosque is a classic example if pre-Mughal Islamic Architecture in bengal, which was Officially declared a protected monument under Antiquities Act of 1968. Visitors should be mindful of strict regulations on site.
THANKFULLY, Directorate of Archeology fully restored the mosque to its original features, Today, as you can see from the ongoing scaffolding in the area, preservation remains an active effort.
