Reaching the Downtown city center from an airport is often a costly affair.
Pune airport is no exception.
Fortunately, there are cheaper alternatives like the autorickshaw and the city bus.
Getting to the airport taxi + rickshaw stand is a bit tricky.
This post makes it easy. Welcome to Pune ![]()
Locating the prepaid auto booth at Pune airport needs a few visual hints and smart usage of Google Maps.
After exiting the baggage area, a large board will greet you with options for a prepaid taxi, auto-rickshaw, or simply the auto.
Turn right and follow the directions. Also, set Google Maps on walk mode.
Watch your feet for the yellow footwear mark pointing to the cab pick-up area.
Also, enjoy the interesting designs on the manhole covers in Pune.
After about 200 meters, you will see covered escalators and a staircase like this:
After climbing up, keep moving straight ahead past the accessibility features at the airport.
Then turn left
You will see a moving walkway.
Over the walkway, looking outside will show the main airport road.
The taxi and auto stands are on the other side of the street and completely outside the airport building. Do not make the mistake of crossing the road by foot since the nearest U-turn is far away, and the road dividers are higher than usual.
After the walkway ends, take a right.
Here, you can book an e-taxi if you want.
Else take the elevator on the right side of this booth and go to floor 2.
After exiting the elevator, the taxi stand is right in front.
But don’t stop here.
Turn a bit left and then a bit right and look in the distant far.
There you will see the pre-paid auto booth.
The fares as of October 2024 were INR 200 for Deccan.
Though I paid INR 300 for Pashan-Baner Link Road.
These are far less than the INR 625 that a taxi charges.
Finally, turn your Google Maps to Taxi mode on your way home.
Most taxi drivers will be glad to take it via your little-known shortcuts instead of the prescribed path on Google Maps.
