How to show your Maps profile link on Connect

Let fellow Local Guides see your Maps contributions

This guide is part of the Transition Tutorials.

With the redesign, it is no longer standard to display a link to your Maps profile on your Connect profile page.

This can be super helpful when community members want to see your Maps contributions and learn from you. And should you need help with something on Maps, moderators will have to first ask you for the link. Copying and pasting your Maps profile link is not super easy for everyone.

So I will hereby enthusiastically plead that you follow the steps below to always share your Maps profile link.

Steps to display your Maps profile link publicly

1. Tap/click on your profile picture
2. Select Preferences
3. Then select Profile
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page. Just above your signature settings, you will see this:

Check the box like this:

5. Then hit the blue Save changes button.

That’s it!

Your Maps profile link is then shared on your Connect profile, as shown below.

Alternatively, you can include the link in your Connect signature like @MrAdityaKumar did here:

Should you need to share your Maps profile link via private message, on social media, email, text message, in your signature, etc., here is how to find and copy it.

1. Open your Maps app.
2. Tap your profile picture.
3. Select Your profile.
4. Tap the Share icon in top right corner.
5. Then select Copy to clipbord.

That is pretty easy. Now go paste your Maps profile link where you want to share it.

Click here if you are on a desktop computer

Steps to copy your Maps profile link using a Desktop browser.

1. Open Google Maps

2. Click the Hamburger icon in the top left corner
   

   

3. Select Your contributions
   

   

4. Then manually select the first part of the URL at the top. It is a super long URL, but you only need the first part as shown below.
   

   

That’s it. Now, paste your Maps profile link wherever you want to share it.

The Google Maps team really need to provide a share profile button! That is way too much work on desktop!

What you showed is the profile summary. Try clicking/taping the profile picture on the summary to open the actual profile page.

And I have not changed this since I wrote this tutorial. We might have a bug on our hands.

This is what I see under your profile.

It seems to depend on who is looking whether the link is there or not. This is strange. Or did you just change the settings, @Annaelisa ?

When I wrote the tutorial I felt is worked just fine under my own profile.

Nein ich habe nichts geändert und es ist auch überall in den Profilen so.
Scheinbar kann man nur selbst den Link sehen und andere nicht.
Nur wo zu soll das gut sein, ich selbst habe doch sowieso den Zugriff auf mein Google Maps.
Wichtig ist doch das die anderen mit dem Link dorthin verzweigen können.

My setting is the same as yours. And within my own profile, like @Annaelisa, I can see the link to my profile. I do believe this is a bug because I’ve looked at several people’s profiles and not found anyone’s map profile link. It seems to me the link should be included with the profile summary to avoid having to keep digging to find it.
