How to photograph coffee shops like a PRO.

When it comes to photography there are boundless opportunities to get creative. As a Google local guide in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, we have taken an approach to clean up the not so nice photos that clutter the feeds of many of the businesses by providing a high-quality progressive angle. One thing is for sure, people who are from Vietnam, absolutely love taking photos of their experiences inside and out. From coffee shops to botanical gardens, you’ll find a crowd of locals dressed to impress and snapping hundreds of photos.

Businesses love the exposure and people love the affirmation and gratification of social media likes, but the big kicker is quality vs. quantity. Tons of photos of the same coffee drink is a bit excessive, we like to marry our knowledge of photography with notable places around Ho Chi Minh City and provide the business with high-quality shareable content. Content that enables the business to grow organically through a trusted account/guide.

Whether it’s Instagram or Facebook , creating value in the form of better photography will not only make you a better photographer but also help the business keep the lights on. After all, customers are the health of any organization.

So, where do you start?

  1. Before heading to a coffee shop, do your research on the business. See what images people have posted and what they are saying about the place.

  2. If possible, try to find the menu online, this can be a bit tricky as many coffee shops in Ho Chi Minh City, don’t actually capture their menu, either the business owner is not all that tech-savvy or perhaps the menu is so simple it’s not needed. Nevertheless, try to see what the coffee shop offers or even better what they are known for.

  3. Next, save your coffee shop in our shared Google Maps List, it’s up to 100 coffee shops and is growing every day. Save only small business coffee shops rather than a franchise. Everyone knows about Highlands and The Coffee House. We like the hidden gems

  4. When you get to the coffee shop, we always recommend taking a photo of the outside and then a few images of the interior in addition to the drink that you order. Shoot for a handful (5) if possible. When it comes to touching up, we recommend using Lightroom CC Mobile, they offer a free version and if you want to go crazy you can upgrade to their subscription, but not needed.

  5. We believe honesty and integrity is the best approach with writing a review for the business. After all, thousands of eyes scroll through the reviews to determine if one should support the business. Please be mindful of this.

Hey Adam! I’m glad you enjoyed the tips. I shot this on Sony’s A7R2 with a 24-70 G-Master Lens. :slightly_smiling_face:
