Displaying photos in various sizes was challenging in the old Connect.
This was because the options were hidden.
In the new platform, handling images is a breeze.
The options to modify the size are easily accessible.
Several new features to handle the image and image size are available.
An image can be added to a post in three ways:
- Click the Upload icon on the toolbar.
- Drag and drop an image file from the File Explorer.
- Copy-Paste (a) Copy a file from Windows File Explorer and paste it in the editor, or (b) Copy an image or portion of an image in an editor like PaintBrush, then paste the selection into the post composer.
Once inserted, a BBCode is generated.
To view the actual image, click ‘Show Preview’ below the editor/composer.
The various file formats supported are seen in the image above.
A 13-megapixel image of size 4080 x 3072 is uploaded and inserted as an image of size 690 x 388.
The proportion is maintained as 4:3
This was more popular on television and early cinema screens.
A more common size for photos with this ratio is 1600 x 1200 pixels.

Note the fixed format of the BBCode:
- Exclamation sign
- Caption in square brackets.
- Pipe character |
- The reduced or normalized image dimensions.
- A new filename with random alphanumeric characters.
Note: The uploaded file is always a JPEG image regardless of the original format - JPG or PNG.
An exception is the GIF format.
The best part is that an animated GIF file appears animated, which was a surprise when I tested it.
Similarly, when a file of size 1920 x 1080 is uploaded, it is normalized to 663 x 500
This is a 16:9 wide format ratio, more common for a full HD resolution.

You can play with the image size numbers in the editor and the preview window below the composer will update in realtime.
-
Alternatively, click the percentage % numbers displayed below the image in the preview window.
Also, to delete the image,
- Remove the line from the editor.
- or, click the red trash icon in the image preview below the image.
Fun Fact: If the pixels are reduced below the original image size, the image is trimmed or cropped.
To edit the caption, using the preview window is recommended.
