Hi all! I have a question about editing and reporting places on Google Maps.
See, I ran into some places that don’t allow me to edit, they appear to be “locked” and don’t let me denounce that they are duplicated or mistaken. While I have seen it many times, one recent case is evident here in this photo collage made to illustrate the issue: there are two locations for the Binational Market in Dajabon, Dominican Republic.
As notable in the two upper photos, one has more than 500 interactions and the other one has none. In the third photo (left corner) you can see that they are almost side by side and that they have the exact same name. But when I try to mark the second one as a duplicate, I can’t! the last photo shows the drop-down menu which does not have the “edit” function. It is not visible in the main screen either.
How can I proceed in this case? Can anyone help me?
I’m taking the freedom to tag the Local Guides “Helper Master” @ErmesT to see if he knows of any easy solution that I have not yet seen.
Please share links to the two places you think are locked.
Are you aware that when you open a place’s page from the map the Suggest an edit might not be shown. But when opening it from a list of search results it will be there?
I am not aware, nor do I understand what you mean with "when you open a place’s page from the map the Suggest an edit might not be shown. But when opening it from a list of search results, it will be there? ". Could you please explain that idea a bit further? Thanks!
Each place on Google Maps has it own page. That is what you see after tapping on a pin.
Editable places will when opened from the map (sometimes) not show the Suggest an edit link to make spamming harder. When you experience this you will need to text search for the place. And then open the place from the search result(s). Then the Suggest an edit will show up.
Thank you for reaching out. You can follow the tips @MortenCopenhagen kindly shared with you.
In addition to that, I am marking his reply as a solution, so other Local Guides can refer to it. The purpose of this feature is to help Local Guides find answers when searching on Connect. Please take a look at How do I mark comments as solutions? article.
