Connect is a place for Local Guides like you to share your experiences exploring the world, tasting new dishes, and more. However, the words and photos you share on Connect should be your own. Originality is one of our five core values, and we take copyright seriously.
Here’s a guide to posting on Connect:
Write original content. Share your own thoughts, impressions, insights, and experiences.
Do not pass off someone else’s words as your own. If you are sharing words someone else has written, use quotation marks around the statement and link to the source where you found that information.
It should be clear which words are yours and which are someone else’s.
Example:
I’m planning to visit the Grand Canyon in March and am looking for tips on how to make the most of my trip. According to Outside Magazine, “with 358 miles of established trails, 277 miles of river to float, and countless panoramas, historic sites, and overlooks to explore, it’s hard to know where to start.” Do you have any advice?
If you do not use a direct quote, tell us in your own words what you read somewhere else. Do not copy and paste it without using quotes or attribution. Include a link to the source.
Only share photos you have taken yourself or received permission to use directly from the copyright owner. Do not download and post photos from Google Search, Google Maps, social media, stock photo websites, or elsewhere on the internet without receiving permission from the owner of that photo.
Give credit in the caption for images you have permission to use. In the photo caption, write, “(Courtesy of ‘Copyright Holder’s Name’).”
Example:
“Caption: A photo of the New York City skyline. (Courtesy of Local Guide @AriMar )”
Posts with images or content used without the copyright holder’s permission will be removed from Connect.
Thanks for this much useful and needed information to all of us in Connect. This will calrify many things on how to use Connect and will be extremely helpful mostly to new comers. Thanks again.
Thank you for your post. It 's very important to keep copyrights here on Connect but also on Google Maps. I’ve found some LGs that writing “their” reviews by copy-paste content from other websites or even Wikipedia without quotation, without writing original author name and without any permissions and without keeping proper copyrights. How to report such reviews? There is no such an option under “flagging” feature. Don’t you think that it should be necessary to add such an option to that tool?
Whenever i visit LocalGuidesConnect, i learn something new. It is because of my beloved fellow guides, Moderators and Googlers. It is my pleasure to be here and learn new subject and correct myself if i had learned wrong in the past.
My cordial thanks to you @DeniGu , for your valuable informations. Definitely, I will try to follow them moro precisely.
