It has been more than a year since Hyderabad has become a metro city and today when i was searching the location of a metro station i came through two places one that looks like the official which shows all the data and timings of the trains but has 23 reviews and the other is just like any other place has no data of trains but just pictures and 500 odd reviews. Should i mark it as duplicate? Since it doesn’t show any data of the trains and just a place added by a local guide instead of the metro authority .
Help me out , even if i mark it as duplicate , having 500 odd reviews will it get removed ir it is just waste of my time trying.
Instead of suggesting one of the place as duplicate, you suggest a merge for that place with the authentic one by repositioning the marker. That would solve the problem. I did that for many such places and found that to be effective
When we look to its symbol, it’s difference from the other place that had much higher review.
In my opinion, I think Google team has listed the Metro Station, completed with the schedule, as the official place and the schedule will updated regularly. It’s difference from the place that we can edit and claimed as business.
Google has listed bus stop, metro station, train station, etc., and complete it with updated routes and schedule.
Hi @NarenChandra thank you for reaching out, can you please share the links for both places you are talking about so that it will be easy to cross check and verify which one is the original or if they are just two separate locations near each other?
@iorikun301 that i understand , one is Google listed and the other added by local guide , but the one that local guides has listed has more reviews that the one that Google listed and has real information in that scenario what should i do?
Thank you @MortenCopenhagen for sharing these two links, from what I noticed here, this is a pure duplicates, this can be easily corrected by using the suggest an edit tool, provided on Google Maps or report it through send feedback as shown from this link How do I report a problem on Google Maps? but if you have already tried this method several times without success @NarenChandra then it will be a good idea to report it here.
Having POIs from the public transportation layer is really helpful. Especially with regard to all the official info on when the next train is about to arrive or leave etc. As a user of Google Maps I kind of got used to selecting the official public transport icons on the map when I need to travel. I can easily live with 2 separate icons or even more if there are both a bus and a metro station nearby each other. Would you care to share your thoughts on the benefit of merging them? I believe the editable place has some advantages that the transport pin does not have. But I’m not sure. Also which place should be removed?
I’m not questioning your judgment, I’m just eager to learn more on how to improve google maps.
Hi @MortenCopenhagen from my understanding, a location can only be listed once, not to have the same location appearing twice on the map. I did not mention which one can be removed from the above statement, that is why I tagged a Googler to help us decide. When we merge we are bringing to items together to form one item without loosing the data from both. That is how it can be done if possible, I am not sure if I answered your question, and if not, please let me know so that I try again. Thank you.
I doubt it is possible to merge POIs from different layers. Mostly because that could lead to less control of the place seen from the transport company.
As local guides we are not able to suggest edits to the name, address, location of the map marker, phone number, opening hours and website etc.
But for sure the reviews and pictures could be transfered to the transport layer POI.
But then reviews and pictures would for sure be more hidden for users to see.
Also I have seen this kind of dublicate entries before. This leaves more opportunities for local guides than if they are merged.
Again I’m not criticizing. Looking forward to how the Google can enlighten us.
@deepakjhic now that is a accurate description to what i need to do.
@MortenCopenhagen i feel even though there are less reviews on the original listing that has the transportation details ,that is more helpful than the other with many reviews.
I too doubt there is a option to merge those , for now i have marked it as duplicate to the original listing.
Hi @MortenCopenhagen the information I collected here I can see the same location duplicated with different categories, first as transport service and the last as Subway Station, the person who asked the question did not tell us if this location is only a subway station or a transportation service, it might happen that all types of transport which can be taxi rank, or bus terminals and subway station all exist in one location or near each other but separate location.
We need to understand this first so that we know how to treat all this location, I suspect that it might happen that due to different categories used, this locations are not duplicates they are what they are, is just that the name does not specify if this is a subway station or transport service/terminal. I can not tell you how to deal with this situation because I do not have enough information, on how this can be managed, that is why I am asking for help.Cheers!
It is clearly shown that the listing with Subway Station category is the original one. This category is not available for maps user/local guides. It is added by maps team after being in touch with Metro Dept. of Hyderabad/Telangana.
As already suggested to the OP, the simplest method is just reporting this(duplicate) listing as duplicate. The category on duplicate listing is no longer relevant to the Metro Station/ Subway Station.
