Hostel on 3rd in San Diego - Budget Friendly with Great Amenities

For a solo budget traveler like me, hostels are a boon.

Although Google Maps prominently displays costly hotels even when searching for hostels, it is immensely helpful when reaching there.

This was prominent in the case of Hostel on 3rd in San Diego, which had no visual clue of its existence.

During my stay here last year, I felt like I was at home
I booked a bunk bed months in advance, which was very affordable.
The staff there was friendly and knowledgeable.

The location is unbeatable - walking distance to the Gaslamp Quarter, restaurants, and public transportation.

The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the common areas were perfect for meeting fellow travelers.

I loved the chill vibe and sense of community, and it was clear that the team there really cared about creating a great experience for their guests.

They also provided a great complementary breakfast in the morning and coffee with appetizers in the afternoons.

They had plenty of areas to lounge and socialize on the ground floor in the lobby, where I had great conversations with fellow travellers.

Their bunk beds were comfortable and provided free sheets, blankets, pillows, and lockers.

Their common kitchen had all the amenities to prepare food and also to eat.

Plenty of tables and eat-out areas, both indoors and outdoors, made my stay comfortable and enjoyable.

The Hostel on 3rd was Such a great place to stay - almost like the best kept secret in my opinion, for an affordable stay along with some really great people to help me feel welcome and family.

:bus: How to Reach

The hostel can be reached from the airport by bus for just 2 dollars.
Read a detailed post on how to get on that bus.

:shallow_pan_of_food: Where to Eat

The Prince Street Pizza shop is my recommendation since it is within walking distance from the hostel.

:hotel: Where to Stay

Hostel on 3rd is where I stayed and recommend.

Woww these photos are nice.. even I prefer to stay in a hostel when I travel because half of the time we are roaming around. When in India try hostellers or go stops they are very cosy and comfortable.

As a budget traveler, I am always looking out for economical stay and food options.

@TusharSuradkar Thanks for sharing your experience with us in detail. Your post is well narrated and having great captures. I personally liked the pins so neatly pinned on the map.

Thank you, @KetanChhaniyara, for the appreciation :handshake:

It was a fun activity putting the pin on the map, though there were already too many visitors from India, it was hard to find a place :world_map:

These types of hostels, B&Bs, or AirBnBs are perfect choices for solo or budget-traveling families.

The hostel looks perfect; amenities are nicely maintained too, as you rightly said, @TusharSuradkar; the service team deserves the kudos for creating nice vibes for the customers.

Thanks for sharing with us.
Cheers!

Thank you for the additional tips on BnBs :plus: AirBnB @AjitThite

Somehow I have seen the ‘hostel’ staff work passionately and not like robotic behavior at large hotels

You are spot-on @Annaelisa

Having a hostel at a close distance to most tourist places is a huge time saver and money saver. I did not hire a taxi even once during my 3-day stay in San Diego.

Which year did you visit there?

Wir waren 1996 dort 3 Wochen Rundreise und 1 Woche noch Hawaii, ist schon lange her aber immer noch eine schöne Erinnerung  @TusharSuradkar
