Henry Cowell Redwood State Park

California has several options to see redwood forests. Famous one is Muir Woods, which is north of San Francisco. If you drive 5-7 hour north of San Francisco, there is another redwood forest, where you will find drive through tree, chimney tree etc.

However near San Jose, you can visit Big Basin, which is a good place to take a hike and visit these huge redwood trees. Of Course, there is Kings Canyon National Park which is around 5hrs drive.

However Henry Cowell Redwood State park, which is easily accessible, around 35 miles from San Jose downtown, a 50 min drive. There is a 1 Mile loop, an easy walk to look at these giant trees. There is a creek close by where you can get in to water. It generally shallow, don’t expect to swim. Also there is Roaring Camp narrow gauge railway station, where you can take a ride to Santa Cruz Beach board walk, through redwood forest.

Anyway this is my choice to visit the redwoods, less hassle than visiting other redwood parks.

Hi @jayasimha78 ,

Thanks for the beautiful post about this redwood park!

It’s so nice that there is such park in your country with so many trees. You can relax there and be alone with nature.

Please note, there is also a photo limit here on Connect (currently 1,000 photos). If you reach this limit, you’ll have to delete older images before uploading new images.

The low angle photography makes the tree look so huge.

Cool trick

I  Henry Cowell! I also live in San Jose and this is a great place to visit on a hot day! The shade is quite nice in July! When company comes to visit, I like to share places like this. Last July, my brother and his family from Pennsylvania visited and we went to see the giant redwoods.

Most giant redwood groves are located in areas where they are quite secluded and hard to reach on foot. Henry Cowell and Muir Woods (north of San Francisco) are two exceptions. The Mariposa Grove in Yosemite is pretty easy to walk into once you complete the 4 hour drive. Every other grove I’ve been to has been a beastly uphill hike!

Here are a couple of my own photos of Henry Cowell!
