Help me understand why these 3 photos are rejected

A week ago I uploaded these 3 photos as photo updates after first trying unsuccessfully to upload them normally to the 3 small businesses.

https://goo.gl/maps/bz3Hbv7waJmhg2ef6?g_st=ac

https://goo.gl/maps/djauu69hFLBqkpLF7?g_st=ac

Almost every day since the upload I have been checking if they should show up in the normal photos tab. All to no avail.

This is strange. Normally my photo update photos quickly merge into the normal photo tab also. But not these 3.

Yesterday I uploaded this image as a photo update. And it already also shows as a normal photo under the place.

So my questions are:

Are my three photos less relevant or if lower quality as those shown under the 3 places? One might be redundant.

The 3 businesses are similar and small. They all have very few photos and almost no user photos. Could Maps have created an option for small businesses to reject user photos?

To be more precise:
Amaze Cph
Has one Google Streetview image, one user image and one logo uploaded by the business owner.

Samtalens Kunst
Has 4 photos uploaded by the owner and 1 Google Streetview image.

Bellis Cosmetic
Has 13 photos from the owner and one Google Streetview image.

All 3 are claimed.

Please share you thoughts on this. Thanks.

The only thought, I have @MortenCopenhagen is the fact that others like @StevenBerlin, @PrasadVR and @TerryPG reported problems too: All photos submitted non public

Thanks. I see that the report is from exactly 6 days ago. So the issues coincides.

But I uploaded a lot more photos on that very same day, and only these 3 have the problem. Maybe I’m extra suspicious because these 3 businesses are located only a few meters apart. And hence were uploaded at pretty much the same time (making a temporary glitz a potential cause).

Maybe I need to try again.

But one thing we can conclude is that the Updates from visitors are still not exposed to the normal photo AI filter as they are accepted as photo updates. I was expecting this would change with time.

Thanks again.

@MortenCopenhagen What’s odd is that I can’t even click on the business name to go to the POI from the picture. It’s as if you posted them to nowhere. Very odd.

Something else strange I’ve never seen before is this arrow that appears when I mouse over the image. It almost suggests there is a series of photos to advance through

It has happened with me too in the past @MortenCopenhagen but I kept as presumed might be google policy or some issues with my photos so better kept mum.
Not even discussed with anyone.
Today after you bell :bell: the cat .
Accepted it publically as exactly I didn’t know the reason
But thanks for sharing.

It’s in the text of Morten’s post, but all of the links he posted did the same thing:

I can’t offer an explanation for your problem, but my experience is usually the complete opposite of yours. When I add via the Photo Updates route, the photos often remain hidden.

They’re great photos.

Were they edited or brightness increased by chance before uploading? And as a follow-up, were they taken on ProRAW with the iPhone?

If so, the only thing I can think of is (i) to crop it so file size is smaller, (ii) convert to JPEG or PNG it’s RAW (e.g., they are very clear but RAW is often higher MBs), or (iii) re-submit it without any enhancements, which sometimes increase file size.

Otherwise, your guess is as good as (if not better) than mine.

I created these links from my Updates list. This will explain the right arrow as this is my latest update with a text. The other three were created from the list of updates under the places and they had no text. My updates were the only updates from visitors which probably explains the lack of arrows. We can test this further if needed.

I know and that is what I tried to explain.

@Annaelisa, click on the link in the 5th paragraph to find it.

This is not correct. I did not double post any photos and did not intend to do so. This is how Maps was designed. Any photos uploaded as an update will also show up in the normal list of photos as demonstrated in the fourth example.

This is the normal behaviour of Google Maps.

So my theory is still that these 3 businesses somehow can avoid / reject photos uploaded by users.

By remaining hidden do you mean they don’t even show under the Updated from visitors tab?

All my photos from the past 2 years are taken with my pixel 7A and I’m not using the RAW feature. But I do some editing to each photo to make the places look their best as explained here
https://www.localguidesconnect.com/t/new-google-photos-editor-interface-make-your-photos-look-their-best/484967

The photo selection AI really seems to like this so a side effect is my photos get featured and hence get a lot of views.

File size is not at issue with jpg files when uploaded via Google photos that takes care of compression in the storage save mode.

There are many such things happening with Google in recent weeks.
Around 2 weeks back I uploaded a few photos to a location, but they only appeared under the ‘update’ section. I even deleted them and tried again through the ‘add photo’ option, but still they showed up only in photo updates. Looks like some bug or issue is going on.

Yesterday (Tues. 8/19 ) I uploaded a Burger King photo ( in California ), and it didn’t show. I even uploaded it a second time. Didn’t show.
Then I uploaded two train stations from Italy, they didn’t show. Uploaded a second time, didn’t show.
This AM (wed, 8/20 ), all the photos I had uploaded yesterday showed.
So I went through and deleted the extra copies.
I was also able to upload more photos of train stations in Italy today.
Note - train station photos get lousy view rates, but I was uploading them to fill in spots on the map.

Hello @Yaryman, you are not the only one reporting missing photos appear overnight. I remember @PrasadVR mentioned something similar. But it seems, there are different issues going on now. Others reported of “pending uploads”.

Thanks. The reason why stations get so few views is that the initial view of the place shows the timetable and not the usual page with photos. I think I will give up on adding train stations for that reason.
