Traveling from Western Washington to Eastern Washington in a trip to Leavenworth, WA from Seattle, WA.
Sometimes we escape the city on a Friday night.
There are a couple of highways that will take you from Western Washington to Eastern Washing. We usually take Highway 2. The picture below shows a view of Mt. Index from Highway 2 during the day. Mt. Index is part of the Cascade Mountain Range and some people refer to this part of the range as the Cascade Alps.
At the top of the Mountain pass, you can find yourself in the clouds.

Once we get to Plain, WA, we’re skiing, sledding and eating well
Cross Country Skiing across from Plain Hardware in Plain Washington.
Places to sled can be easily found. The snow can be icy, so you have to have a tough backside for some of it.
You can find Great Food at Old Mill Cafe which is conveniently located next to Plain hardware and across the street from a groomed Cross Country Ski track that is 26K in length. You can get really hungry cross country skiing.
Next stop: Leavenworth, Washington
Leavenworth has a reputation for being touristy, which is great for tourists. For hikers and rock climbers, the appeal lies right outside town as you make your way to trails the lead to the Enchantments. Here’s a view from the Yodelin Restaurant in Leavenworth. That’s the Wenatchee River that runs through Leavenworth. In the summer you can ride the river on inner tubes.
During the Holiday Season Leavenworth takes pride in its evening lighting ceremonies. In the picture below, I’m on the deck of the Rhine Haus Restaurant in Leavenworth.
I like to contrast the Wenatchee River which dumps into the Columbia River as it shows the effect of damming a river. The still of the Columbia allows for great reflection photos though.
Mighty Columbia:” A land of old upheaven from the abyss” as seen from a Waterfront Park in Wenatchee Washington.
Look at the Wenatchee River a little further upstream that feeds into the Columbia River. This river gets its water from the melting snow in the Cascades.
This Apple Cold Storage warehouse in Wenatchee, WA reminds me that Eastern Washington supplies apples to communities all over the world and has for generations.
