Hello dear Local Guides!
Today, I would like to talk about one of the ancient and traditional industries of my country—an industry that is slowly fading away with time: the Pottery Industry.
There was a time when earthenware was an inseparable part of daily life in rural Bangladesh. From cooking pots to water jars, everything was made of clay. The rhythmic sound of the potter’s wheel once echoed through village neighborhoods, reflecting a vibrant and self-sustaining way of life.
Heritage and Present Reality
Pottery was once a key driving force of the rural economy. However, with the widespread use of plastic, melamine, and steel products, this eco-friendly craft has gradually been pushed to the margins. Today, only a handful of small-scale artisans and potters continue this profession, holding on to it out of love and respect for their ancestral heritage.
Why Is It Important to Preserve This Craft?
Eco-friendly: Clay products are 100% natural and cause no harm to the environment.
Health benefits: Food cooked in clay pots and water stored in earthen jars are considered healthier.
Cultural identity: Pottery is a living symbol of our centuries-old history and traditions.
Our Role as Local Guides
As Local Guides, even our small actions can help revive this disappearing craft:
Add to Google Maps: If you know of any pottery shops or potters’ communities in your area, consider adding them to Google Maps.
Reviews and photos: Share detailed reviews and high-quality photos so others can easily discover them.
Raise awareness: Encourage people to choose clay products as sustainable alternatives to plastic and decorative items.
Looking Ahead
Although this craft is struggling to survive amid modernization, there is renewed interest in clay products for interior decoration and artisanal items. With proper support and visibility, local artisans can once again find recognition, and pottery can regain its lost glory.
Have you seen any traditional crafts disappearing in your area?
Please share your experiences in the comments—we’d love to learn from your stories.

Hi! @MohammadPalash Great post. In my hometown in Indonesia, we also have many talented artisans making pottery for decor and kitchenware. Your photos are lovely! To make this even more helpful for the community, could you please add the Google Maps location of the pottery shop or artisan mentioned in your post? It would be great for other Local Guides who might want to visit or support the business.
