This post is about some flowers I saw during my mission last few weeks. In my earlier post, I shared about** Siam Tulip,** this one is about general flowers. The intention for the post is only to bring general knowledge to those LGs who love to read and get new knowledge. I had an opportunity to take photos of these lovely flowers. All were taken by iPhone 7 plus. No edition was made or filter were used to take these photos.
Please take note that in Cambodia, we have so many kinds of flowers and most of them are fragrance and most commonly known are either Jasmine, Tuberose which are commercial flowers or flowers that are used for religious worship. Other than garden flowers, many wild flowers or big tree flowers are with great aroma or fragrance one such as Champa/ (Michelia) or Gardenia . This surprises me as I have seen so many kinds of flowers abroad but they do not have fragrance. These flowers I am going to introduce you here, I encountered them and that I have not seen before which will include in this post with short introduction… Please tell me if you seen similar ones before?
This flower is known locally as ផ្កាចេកទុំ [Chek Tum or Ripen banana flower] / or ដោះក្របី [Dos Krobey [the Buffalo breast flower] / or រំចេក [Rum Chek]. It may be called **Hara-Champa [**Artabotrys odoratissimus] is not wild flowers but it is rare to see it. The fragrance and shape of this flower is very much like the ripen banana, strong aroma. I heard the name before but I have never seen it physically. This flower is in the same family with Ylang Ylang flowers
ផ្កាកែវ or Phak Keo [Glass flower] Orange jasmine or Chinese box, [Murraya paniculata] is another fragrance garden flower. It smells so nice, especially at night time. It is common and people love to grow them around the house.
ផ្កាអង្គាបុស្ប read as Angkeabos, name in English is Indian cork tree, Tree jasmine[Millingtonia Hortensis] is another fragrance flower planted at home. I have just seen it physically the first time too. I think because from where I was born, no one really fancies flowers than fruit trees. My dad rarely planted flowers. Only now I saw few kinds of flowers in the garden at home.
The last one totally the wildflowers which I only knew one: Siam Tulip. The rest I don’t really know what they are called, even in Khmer or local language. It is my first time seeing them in the wild. The yellow one looks like Marigold but that’s not it. They have no fragrance.
This flowers is called **ចំប៉ា (read as Champa flower) in Khmer [**Michelia, Michelia Champaca], with big tree and has a light fragrance. People would use it to tie with their hair
This flower are known as the [symbol flower of Cambodia (national flower). It has a lot in Siem Reap region as wild flower but these days, people would plant them in home garden. It is called រំដួល read as RumduolWhite Cheesewood], it normally blooms in either Mar or April. It has great aroma and I think it is in the same family with Hara-champa, Champa, Ylang Ylang
Thanks for tagging me to this nice post @Sophia_Cambodia . Yes, I love flowers and I guess I have seen some of them. I need to search in my collections, if I get any similar to these I will share hare with you. Thanks and stay safe.
Yes, we have many things similar including flowers @Sophia_Cambodia . I have a huge collection of flowers. Unfortunately, I do not know the names of most of the flowers in my collection. So, I think it will take some time to find one similar to your post. If I get any on my way, I must share with you, no worry. Thanks a lot for your comments.
I can help you on the way, like I used to comment on any flower that I know @MukulR with the English name or scientific name. It is good to share these general knowledge together.
You captured all flowers (shown here) very carefully. Because the structure of each flower is visible clearly.
Question:
Jasmine and Orange jasmine is same flower or different?
BTW, here I want to mention @MukulR because from both of your post I can see different type of natural things just like here i.e.Flower. I’ll say one word : Keep posting
You have said many beautiful words of praise and compliment @KalyanPal really appreciated.
Jasmine and Orange jasmine is different types. This one is more similar to orange flowers but smells stronger than orange, like jasmine flower. I would say it is a combination of both. Jasmine is normally small shrubs, at most about 70cm-80cm while Orange jasmineis bigger tree 1.50m - 3m.
Many of your photos are familiar to me, except the first one; your Siam Tulip too, at least I’m not remembering.
Beautiful photos…
I have a humble suggestion… If you could Serial Number your photos it will be easy for us to refer to your photos. (Hope you have seen Photo Number in my posts) - I always try to keep serial number so that others can easily mention.
