During my recent visit to Jaisalmer, I had the privilege of exploring the Jaisalmer War Museum 
, a place that stands as a proud testament to India’s military history and valor 
.
Established by the Indian Army, this museum beautifully encapsulates the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers, especially highlighting the Indo-Pak wars of 1965 and 1971.
Location and Accessibility: The Jaisalmer War Museum is located approximately 10 kilometers from the city center of Jaisalmer on the Jaisalmer-Jodhpur Highway (NH15). It is easily accessible by auto-rickshaws 
, taxis 
, and private vehicles 
. Local buses 
also provide convenient transport to the museum.
Entry Fees: The entry ticket to the museum is reasonably priced at INR 60 per person. For the AV Room, an additional ticket of INR 40 and for the Light and Sound Show, an additional ticket costing INR 125 is required. One can also select an option from Combo offers as shown on board. 
Children below the age of 12 years, Uniformed Personnel, Ex Servicemen, Veer Naris, and Specially Abled can enter for free. 
Exhibits and Galleries: The museum is thoughtfully designed with indoor and outdoor displays

The outdoor area features decommissioned tanks, fighter jets, and artillery that were once active in battlefields 
. One of the most captivating displays is the Hunter aircraft that played a crucial role in the 1971 war.
The indoor galleries present detailed narratives through photographs, weaponry, and soldier memorabilia. The Longewala Hall vividly narrates the story of the Battle of Longewala, immersing visitors in the strategic brilliance and courage of Indian soldiers.
A/V Room: An Audio-Visual (A/V) Room inside the museum screens an engaging film about the Indian Army, highlighting their dedication and service to the nation. This informative film offers visitors a deeper understanding of the military’s role in safeguarding India.
Vijay Smarak: A prominent feature is the Vijay Smarak (Victory Memorial) 
, dedicated to the martyrs 
. The solemn atmosphere here encourages reflection on the sacrifices made for our nation’s security. The eternal flame stands as a symbol of gratitude and remembrance.
Light and Sound Show: In the evening, the museum hosts a captivating Light and Sound Show 
that recounts historic battles with dramatic visuals and narration 
. It adds a deeper emotional connection to the history on display and is a must-experience for visitors. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the time to stay till evening to enjoy the show.
Visitor Amenities: The museum is well-maintained with ample seating areas, clean restrooms, and a small cafeteria offering refreshments. There’s also a souvenir shop 
where visitors can purchase memorabilia to take home a piece of history 
. Notably, the souvenir shop features unique artifacts crafted by the wives of soldiers, adding a personal and heartfelt touch to the collection.
Accessibility: The museum is fully wheelchair accessible 
, with ramps and designated pathways ensuring everyone, including specially-abled visitors, can explore the exhibits comfortably.
Final Thoughts: Visiting the Jaisalmer War Museum was an enriching experience that instilled a deeper sense of respect and pride for the Indian Armed Forces
