As I stepped inside the Jaisalmer War Musem my heart filled with pride, patriotism, and nationalism due to the ambiance of the place that is huge with various war exhibits that are a treat to the eyes.
The museum is both outdoors and indoors complete with a souvenir shop, washroom, cafe, parking, and a light-and-sound show in the evening.
The outdoor exhibits include primarily war vehicles like tanks, fighter jets, jeeps, and other armored vehicles.
The indoor exhibits include objects and artifacts used in the war that the Indian Army had participated in since 1947.
This message reminds visitors about the great sacrifice of our soldiers when leaving the museum premises.
A special area called Shraddhanjali Sthal was added recently.
Some other outdoor attractions are a replica of a bunker and a camel made of gear wheels and clutch plates, besides the national emblem of India.
The central attraction of the museum is a huge replica of a bayonet placed here as a silent reminder of the courageous feats achieved by the valiant soldiers of the Indian Army in the battles fought in the Jaisalmer sector.
As I stood there in front of the bayonet, I paused and remembered the Bravehearts who did not yield an inch of ground to the enemy despite overwhelming odds and laid down their lives in the famous battles and hard-fought victories in the 1965 and 1971 wars.
The museum has a cafe which I did not visit and also a large souvenir shop which I simply could not give a miss.
So from the souvenir shop, I bought a war museum cap for INR 350.
The cap has the words ‘Jaisalmer War Museum’ embroidered on it and is of very good quality,
I won’t use it but retain it as a souvenir.
I also purchased a ticket for the evening light-and-sound show and it was a treat to the eyes narrating the story of the war of 1971 giving me goosebumps.
How to Reach
The only way to reach here perhaps is with personal vehicles or a rented taxi since I did not see any other public vehicle like a rickshaw or bus plying here nor had the time to enquire about it locally.
Where to Eat
I always had my lunch and dinner at The Chandan Shree Hotel during my 5 day stay in Jaisalmer city.
