Added a Hidden Gandhi Statue Remembering His 1937 Visit to Kerala in google map ![]()
During my morning walk today, I unexpectedly came across a small gated area with a statue of Mahatma Gandhi. To my surprise, it had an inscription mentioning that the statue was built in remembrance of Gandhi’s visit to Kerala in 1937.
The plaque also mentions that freedom fighter Sri Ramakrishna Pillai started a stiching center for the Harijan community to honor Gandhi’s visit — a beautiful piece of local history that seems to have gone unnoticed over time.
Though the place isn’t open to the public, the statue is clearly visible from outside the gate. I’ve added this historical landmark to Google Maps with a photo and video, hoping more people become aware of it and appreciate this hidden part of our heritage.
