I almost always record my Google Maps videos in Pan mode (Android camera). This gives a cinematic slow-mo shot with no audio.
Pros:
- you can do an easy shot that pans around giving a nice view of the POI (best for indoor shots). Examples: Cafe - indoor, Market - outdoor,
- you can do a slow reveal (down-to-up or up-to-down); dramatic but not entirely informative. Example: Shopping arcade - indoor, Botanical garden - outdoor
- the slow-mo smoothes out jitters/shakes. Example: Food reveal
- the slow-mo gives a nice cinematic feel; think John Woo (famous film director.. it’s like his signature shot). Example: Cable car - outdoor
- in Android’s default camera’s Pan mode, recording for X seconds generates double the length of the video as it slows it down). So, it makes it more discrete to do a quick pan of the camera and have a decently long video clip as a result.
Cons:
- in Android, pan mode removes audio. This could be a pro if you prefer to upload without audio anyway!
If folks are interested to give this a try, I would recommend trying it and getting used to the speed of your panning. If you’re panning too slow, the final outcome becomes too boring to watch (unless there’s a lot of details to be observed).
