Default Email Address

I have a Level 6 Local Guide email address. Recently when I have posted a review, Google Maps defaults to my gmail account which is NOT a Local Guide email address.

Google Maps does not allow me to post a review using my Level 6 Local Guide email address.

How do I get Google Maps to default to my Level 6 Local Guide email address?

Hi @johnbrennan

Can you provide some more detail?

Do you mean that, when you are logged in Google Maps with the account associated to your Local Guide profile, you are not able to add any review?

Or the issue is just related to one single place?

Have you already tried the following?

  • Logout from your gmail account
  • Clear the cache on your mobile
  • Open Google Maps App
  • Login with your local Guides account

Thank you @ErmesT for your reply.

Whenever I am logged in Google Maps, I am able to review, but NOT with the account associated to my Level 6 Local Guide profile.

Google Maps allows me to review using my gmail account which is NOT the account associated to my Level 6 Local Guide profile.

My gmail account has two recent reviews.

@ErmesT You asked me:

Have you already tried the following?

  • Logout from your gmail account
  • Clear the cache on your mobile
  • Open Google Maps App
  • Login with your local Guides account

I did logout of my GMail account but Google Maps did not allow me to review. It gave me an error message.

Also I use my LAPTOP not my Mobile.

This is what Google Maps defaults to.

Previously, this is what Google Maps defaults to.

Hello @johnbrennan

Google Maps allows review by anybody possessing a Google account. The person need not be a local guide.
Nevertheless, I find the following different circumstances which prevent you from posting a review.

  1. Possibly, Maps is asking you to sign-in & you are not able to do that for some reason.
However, you can log into a browser, that’s why you are able to create a post here.
  2. Maps app does not allow reviewing certain places.
I find an old thread which discussed the identical issue.

The problem was resolved after updating the phone OS & all apps.

I am able to sign into Google Maps using either account. When I go to REVIEW it defaults to my gmail account.

While replying, please tag the user by starting with @

That way others will come to know to whom you are replying.

Since you are using a desktop, I suggest you try the following.

Open a new browser window in an incognito mode.

Next, open Maps and then access the place for which you wish creating a review.

Now, maps will ask you the login credentials. Use the one for the LG account.

Create the review and submit.

Presumably, that should go through.

By the way, if you are using a work account for the LG activity, my request would be to exit that and sign up the LG program afresh using your personal email id. It’s always helpful to separate business and personal activities.

Hi there @C_T ,

Thank you for your suggestion. I did everything that you suggested.

I opened a new browser window in an incognito mode.

I opened Maps and then accessed the place for which I wished to create a review.

Maps asked me for my login credentials. I used the one for the LG account.

Then I selected submit.

The result is that it gave me an ERROR Message.

.

Hello @johnbrennan

Thanks for the confirmation. That step was necessary to confirm whether the cookies are interfering.
Nevertheless, you did not clarify whether the LG account is through a work email or not.
Further, do you face problems only while posting reviews? Or is the response same for photo upload or edits also?
Meanwhile, to pinpoint the exact cause of the error, there would be several steps in troubleshooting.

  1. Creating a review through the phone.
  2. Logging out from all google accounts & then try logging only into the LG account.
  3. Creating a review through another desktop.
If all these attempts fail, that would indicate some problem with the LG account profile for which the moderators need to intervene.

Hello @C_T ,

Thank you for your quick response and suggestions.

In answer to your question my LG account is NOT a work email. It is my private email.
The problem exists in all cases, posting reviews, uploading photographs, and editing.

In all cases it defaults to my gmail account, NOT my LG account.

You suggested:

  1. Creating a review through the phone.
  2. Logging out from all google accounts & then try logging only into the LG account.
  3. Creating a review through another desktop.
If all these attempts fail, that would indicate some problem with the LG account profile for which the moderators need to intervene.

In answer to these suggestions:

I never use and have never used my phone to post a review.

I have tried logging out from all google accounts & then try logging only into the LG account, but I get an ERROR Message.

I have NOT tried to create a review through another desktop.

I have tried from this desktop in Incognito Mode.

As you suggested, I would like the moderators to intervene because there may be some problem with the LG account profile.

Thanks for asking @johnbrennan

I am tagging @MoniV for you to check

Can you also tell us what is the error that you get when you try to login with the account associated to the Local Guides Program?

To avoid any mixup on my desktop, I have created different users, so every user is associated to only one Gmail account

Hi @johnbrennan ,

Thanks for reaching out to us and @ErmesT , thanks for tagging me.

If you have more than one Google Account, you can sign in to multiple accounts at once. That way, you can switch between accounts without signing out and back in again. Your accounts have separate settings, but in some cases, settings from your default account might apply.

Please check this helpful article: Sign in to multiple accounts at once. You can also refer to the Google Account help, if you continue having this issue.

P.S.: Please use the @ symbol in front of my name, so I can receive a notification with your answer.

Hi @MoniV and @ErmesT ,

My problem has NOT been solved.

@ErmesT and @MoniV

Hi @MoniV and @ErmesT ,

I am still getting an Error message when I try to use my LG Account email.

How do I change it so that my LG Account email is my DEFAULT ACCOUNT (My Google Account Email?

Hi @johnbrennan ,

How to change default Google account:

  1. Sign out of Gmail completely.
  2. Open a new browser and log in first to the account you want to be the default.
  3. Log in to your other account(s).
  4. Check you’ve changed your default by opening Gmail in a new browser. Your default account should appear.

Please also check the link that I have provided, there you can find steps on how to change your default account.
