The air is thick with devotion and a touch of sweet nostalgia here on Day 2 of the magnificent Chitrai Festival! Today, amidst the joyous crowds and echoing chants, I stumbled upon something truly special: traditionally made Authentic Hard Sugar Candy.
These little gems, crafted with the rich sweetness of jaggery, come in three delightful flavours – the delicate floral notes of rose
, the refreshing coolness of camphor
, and the classic regular sweetness. Each bite is a trip down memory lane!
Adding to the enchanting atmosphere were the soft glows of single kerosene lamps, casting a warm, old-world charm over the scene. It’s incredible to witness these traditions being kept alive.
And the divine processions were a sight to behold! Goddess Meenakshi graced us in the majestic Bootha Vahanam, while Lord Shiva looked resplendent in the elegant Annam Vahanam. It’s moments like these that truly capture the spirit and beauty of Madurai.
