Cosmic dancers in Copenhagen

Tonight I passed by these huge sculptures in Copenhagen during the Golden Hour. The five art pieces are called Cosmic dancers. The artist is named Lin Utzons. Yes, she is the daughter of the famous Danish architect who designed the Sidney Opera House. I hope you like them.

The 3.5 meters high sculptures are located at the concrete pier called Ophelia beach in The Copenhagen Habour just next to the Play House (part of the Royal Theater). In the first photo, you can see the Copenhagen Opera House in the background.

The cosmic dancers look fancy though attractive @MortenCopenhagen

Is this a public recreational area? I do not see any shops or parks nearby.

Very striking status - I totally get the movement and energy of the forms but those gaping holes and black drips make me almost uncomfortable.
To me they are almost out of place on that specific location.
Still, great photos (as usual) - thanks for sharing.

“Cosmic Dancers” by Lin Utzons look very interesting, dear friend @MortenCopenhagen ,

I have the same doubt as asked by our @TusharSuradkar - could you please explain us?

And, after a search in Google, I could find this _LINK, _which looks very interesting.

Thanks for sharing this beautiful piece of art.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen I love these dancers, they seem to cry diesel, they look like new nuclear power plants (with a lot of imagination)
You were lucky to find such a beautiful sunny day, a perfect stage.

Thank you for the post. Have a nice day.

Hi @TusharSuradkar , @DENIT33 , @TravellerG , @Ransy , and @abermans

Thanks for your comments.

Ofelia beach is a public space for events. During the pandemic, a huge test center was positioned here. Huge sports events depart from here, and I have attended concerts here also. The surface is rough concrete.

The designers had this wonderful idea that the surface (which is actually the roof of an underground parking space) is slanted into the harbor to allow bathing and swimming at the end. But the harbor authority stepped in and argued that this would compromise the ships. OMG. There are hardly ever any ships in this harbor! So I guess the developers as a silly protest decided to keep the name Ophelia Beach!

And yes, calling a huge concrete slap a park or a beach is somewhat of a stretch, but the place is well-known and liked by most. The developers went a bit further with the naming. The underground parking structure was named “Parking Experience”! It has lots of light and colors, but still, it is just a parking garage. See photos here.

There are some seasonal cafés etc there. And during the summer months, there will be a ton of sunchairs and a lot of people.

Just next to it is The Kissing Stairs which is also part of the same development. I guess they hired a creative person to come up with these names.

Thanks for your detailed response, dear @MortenCopenhagen Ji.

Well explained…

The parking looks like a typical parking garage only - I saw the photos & I fully agree with you.

Roughly, how much area is this?

You told that you have attended concerts here… Roughly, how many guests can be accommodated?

Greetings with regards.

@TravellerG

According to My Maps the entire “concert beach” is 1.45 hectares (3.6 acres). 50 meters by 280 meters. Plenty to have seating for 1000+ people. Often events will attract spectators on smaller boats also.

Got it, my friend @MortenCopenhagen ,

280 X 150 meters looks like a decent area to accommodate about 1000 audiences - fully agree with you.

“… Often events will attract spectators on smaller boats also. …”

Oh… This is really interesting…

Yes, this is popular in events in Backwaters of Kerala - spectators reach in small boats to see the bigger boat races.

Thanks for your kind responses.

Warm regards
