I started contributing photos to Google Maps recently. I have many interesting photos of places I have traveled to in previous years, I would like to know if it is possible and relevant to contribute these photos even though they are from 2016 of these places I have already visited.
If possible, if there is any guidance so that when adding it, it is referring that they are from previous years and not current photos/videos.
Hi @lucianochaves , “Welcome to Connect! If this is your first visit, you’ve come to the right place. This post will serve as a guide for everything you need to know about contributing content and engaging with the Local Guides community on Connect” . This is the first of the information that you will find in “Your guide to Connect” , the introductory Guide of the community. In there you will find all the necessary information to know how to better contribute in here.
“Old photos” is an interesting subject. Considering that our photo should show how a business is I would say NO. A business may change a lot in 7 years, the structure, the menu, the products may not reflect the actual location. A different perspective may be adopted for Parks, or historical landmarks, monuments and so on, where the locations may not change too much over the years (but I think it should be in any case verified by checking the new photos, before to choose to upload a “dated” photo.
In short: would you choose a place to visit based on “old photos”?
Also, most probably due to the “age” of the photos, Maps will probably demote them, moving your photos at the end of the list
Do you have a doubt about how to do something here or in Google Maps? The Help desk is here for you, with a long list of post with detailed indications on how to post.
Which kind of contents we share in the community? What are Connect topics? will give you an explanation
I asked because there could be a specific place to post older photos, and so Google would make a timeline showing photos of what the place was like and how it is today. This function would be very interesting because I have many photos of places, parks, monuments that if I had the knowledge I have today, I would certainly have posted these photos at the time.
It’s a pitty there isn’t this feature.
Thanks a lot for the help!

Maps has been designed to help the people to decide if they wants to visit a place, so it is very important to have updated information of the location, more than historical photos, because such photos are useless for taking a decision.
I think we should use Maps for what it is designed for, and Maps is basically a tool, not a virtual museum.
We have other tools for doing that, like Google My-Maps, where we can create custom Maps.
I have thousands of photos too that are too old to be posted, so I perfectly understand what you mean, but an old information can confuse the user.
Just to give you an example, I have a lot of photos of several beaches in Portugal. When I visited them the access to the beach was quite difficult, with a narrow pathway and some narrow and steep stairs. Checking Maps I see that now the entrance has been improved. But my photos could scare the people who wants to go there, and this can damage the businesses around, that invested money to improve the accessibility
