With Google Storage announcing that storage of photos will now be part of the 15GB cap will local guides be given any special dispensation from this, as I guess they produce a large amount of photos that benefit Google.
Welcome to Connect.
Don’t forget to also upload photos to your posts to make them more interesting for others.
Hi @RobertLancaster we asked about this in the moderators discussion today, there isn’t an answer at this time but stay tuned for an announcement when the answer is known.
The photos you upload to Maps were disconnected from Google Photos some time ago, if you delete a photo from Google Photos that you’ve added to Maps it will stay in Maps. What is in question is if the Maps photos contribute to your quota or not.
Paul
Hi @RobertLancaster , and welcome to Connect. No special dispensation for photo storage by Local Guides has been included in Google’s announcement. Also, you should move your post from Photography to the How-tos topic on Connect which is dedicated to questions like yours and as it fits better there and this is where you are likely to get a wider response and also where others who may have similar questions about this can benefit from the discussion. You can read more about Connect topics here: How to choose a topic for your Connect post.

New Google Photos storage policy says,
Starting June 2021, Google will stop giving unmetered unlimited free storage for photos.
https://blog.google/products/photos/storage-changes
This is bad news for LGs who takes hundreds of photos of the streets and shops to help Google for free and make Google maps useful for personal and commercial usages.
Google cannot make us pay for the storage by stopping Gmail, GDrive and other Google services when it hits the 15GB default storage limit.

Pretty sad @ShineRaj
नमस्कार.
आजच या विषयावर दुसऱ्या एका पोस्ट मध्ये काही चर्चा झाली आहे.
तुम्हाला ती नक्की उपयुक्त वाटेल.
Hi @ShineRaj ,
Thanks for reaching out.
As mentioned above, this is discussed in this thread. That is why to keep Connect organized I will merge your post there.

Hi @Vvincent ,
I just wanted to let you know that I will merge your post to an ongoing thread, where the same matter is being discussed. There, you will able to keep your eye on the latest updates. Have in mind that this is how we keep the forum organized.
Bonjour @Bobiisha

A votre santé
Vincent
What is going to happen after unlimited photos are taken away. I already get a notification if I delete a photo that is part of my contributions.
Hi @jdhess2005 and welcome to Connect.
As you will know there is now no direct connection between Google Photos and Google Maps and there is no mention of photos contributed to Google Maps in Google’s recent update announcement about storage policies across our Google Account, the details on which you can read in this article.
Also, you should move your post from Photography to the How-tos topic on Connect which is dedicated to questions like yours and it fits better there as this is where you are likely to get a wider response and also where others who may have similar questions about this can benefit from the discussion. You can read more about Connect topics here: How to choose a topic for your Connect post.

Hi @jdhess2005 ,
Thanks for reaching out to us!
I just wanted to let you know that I will move your post to an ongoing discussion, where the same matter is being discussed. Have in mind that this is how we keep the forum organized.
The time is here ShineRaj,
It is too bad this one thing Google could not do for us. Most of us do not take just one or two pictures of something for Google, even a new street sign. We do it from many angles and then pick our favorites but there could be 5 more. These stay on our phone as we show family and friends and even brag a little, that we take pics for Google maps. I personally take pictures from my point of view, ‘My Wheelchair During these Covid-19 Years’.
So why can’t we have the space when our pics bring billions of people around the world keep coming back to Google Maps.
Hi. As Google Guides, we add value by providing high quality photos and reviews as contributors to Google. These services are provided to Google for free, and used by Google apps to provide an exceptional user experience. Our photos have been viewed by millions of users!
In order to continue providing this level of support, we need to backup a tremendous amount of photos. I personally take many different photo angles and versions, then I choose the best to share on Google.
With the level of effort and many hours that we all provide to support Google as a contributors of reviews and photos, I believe Google should minimally, provide support by providing unlimited free photo storage and possibly Drive storage to Google Guides. From a cost perspective, the service we provide as Guides should cover many times over, the expense of our storage.
The space on my private google account is full due to the large amount of images I provide as Google Local Guide.
As a Google Local Guide level 9, can I count on an increase in my google box capacity or other options?
