Omer Ali ( @OmerAli )was nominated for Connect Live Attendee of the Week by @KashifMisidia because of the community-building, engaging and helpful posts he’s authored on Connect.
Omer is a Level 8 Local Guide, a Street View Trusted Photographer, and a four-time meet-up host. He’s also an engineering professor and PhD student in George Town, Malaysia, so teaching and engaging others on Connect is second-nature.
“I’m a perfectionist and I care about small details in everything I doㅡbe it a university lecture, my photography, computer coding, or even writing a post on Connect. I believe in adding value,” Omer told us.

Omer is a two-time Connect Live attendee, having first attended the event last year in San Francisco. “Connect Live 2018 and all the amazing attendees helped to pull the real person out of me, as if I had my college life back. I made new friends; had long, productive discussions with passionate people; and I laughed a lot,” Omer said.
In his Connect post for the Connect Live 2019 application, Omer wrote about the transformation he experienced after attending the biggest event for Local Guidesㅡone that made him a better contributor on Google Maps and Connect. “After Connect Live 2018, I completely transformed and started focusing first on adding quality reviews to the map, and second on bridging the gap.” To him, “bridging the gap” means thinking of ways to bring people closer on Connect, while also sharing ideas, how-tos, and thought-starters in beautifully presented ways.
In his nomination, Kashif said he appreciates Omer’s many Connect contributions. “Omer was my first friend on Connect. He has taught many Local Guides. He has great teaching skills and he never says no to anyone who wants to learn from him… I am witness to and an example of this.”
