Today, we’re coming to Banqiao (板橋 in Mandarin), the political, economic, and transportation hub of New Taipei City, Taiwan, also my second home, as I’ve been living in the area for four and a half years. That’s quite a bunch of time, isn’t it? Back to the track, Banqiao may not be as fancy nor hip as the spots we’ve visited in Taipei City, but it got its own zone, Banqiao 435 Art Zone.
What is Banqiao 435 Art Zone?
Banqiao 435 Art Zone is a multifunctional public space. With a theater, a toy museum, several exhibition halls, over 50 studios for independent artists, and a series of exhibitions, art courses, and educational events, visitors can feel, experience, and practice arts.
How to get there?
Banqiao is the transportation hub of New Taipei City so there’re many ways to get here. Visitors can take MRT (aka Taipei Metro), TRA (aka Taiwan Railway), or THSR (Taiwan High-Speed Rail) to Banqiao Station, then take a 15 minutes bus to 435 Art zone Stop. Or, if you have an auto, it’s within a half-hour drive from Taipei City.
nice place, lot of graffiti around, it should be very special . I see there are many activities and lot of other specialty, is it kind of a park? I see also lot of green and many people standing around with kids as well.
I like the first one with the lanterns, it is very special, and at 2nd place I would choice the red dragon .
Frankly, I wasn’t quite sure who’re the creators of these artworks, but I assume that should be the artists around? As there’re many studios for individual artists in this area.
Yes, it’s a multifunctional public space. Besides the main building hall, there’s a green grassland in the back of the zone. Many people bring kids and family to picnic there.
The lantern one is also my favorite! The two mandarin characters on the drawing are “平安”, which means “safe and sound” in English. Exactly our best hope during this pandemic time.
Wow! The amount of street art in San Jose is incredible. I visited there 2 years ago but didn’t really get the chance to explore the town closely. There’re so many great artworks. Thanks for sharing!
