CENTRE OF THE WORLD.
My travels this weekend took me to a place known as TEMA CITY in Ghana. It’s a city that lies 25km East of Accra the capital city of Ghana. Its about 30km driving distance(15miles). It has a harbour and a port. Its port is the largest port Ghana has, which spans 3.9 million square meter of land. However, that’s a topic for another post maybe. This city was not meant to be a permanent residential area at the inauguration of the little fishing harbour in Tema, but as population increased and the harbour developed it has gradually developed into permanent residential area. Its divided into 25 communities, although abit crowded but well planned.
However,The main crust of this post is that this city is the closest to the centre of the world. There is a plaque raised at the hotel and casino centre at the exact spot and I was there this past weekend just for a visit. They are lots of nice restaurants, pizzas place local restaurants etc While there I was at a pizza place but on a second thought decided for a local dish, I have the Post here. Please check it out if you like.
The centre of the WORLD WHERE THE EQUATOR and the GREENWICH meets at 380 MILES (611km) from the coast of Tema into the Atlantic ocean. It’s an interesting city to visit after the capital city of course.
It’s a very open place for tourists, nice road channels and nice people. It has lots of nice hotels and guest house too incase you have plans to visit feel free to make your plans after the epidemic of course!!! Just an interesting site and phenomenon. Have you ever heard of it or what do you think of it? Let’s know your answers and views.
Thanks for sharing your travel experience. I wasn’t aware of this city and it’s nice to know that it is close to the centre of the world. How long did you stay there? Did you grab a bite somewhere?
Hello @MoniDi thank you for your interest. I was there for a night and lodged somewhere. Yes I had a bite of the local dish somewhere, here is the Post . You can check it out if you like. I was also at a pizza place. They are very nice eateries around the place.maybe I should include it in my post as well, thanks for the idea.
I would love visit this place Tema, whenever I visit Ghana. During my Geography classes, we have been told about how Ghana has the Longitude 0° which is the Centre of the World. All other world clock takes reference from Greenwich time or Tema’s time. Like Nigeria is +1 hour owing to Ghana’s time.
Thank you for this post @SholaIB it has made me reminisced on what has been taught many years ago to me.
Now I would love to ask you about the Equator! Which countries lie on the Equator? No peeping. Hahahah.
That’s true @Austinelewex you must know your geography well enough. Yes we are on GMT 00 here but Nigeria is +1. As for the EQUATOR will let you know when I get there in my travels I assure you I won’t peep . Thanks for the comments and Tags.maybe @Wisnusetiono may like to see this too. @And12-X2 a special invitation to you all.Am sure @Shruti_U would love to come visit the Centre of the world .
@Austinelewex@SholaIB Wow, this information is interesting. I didn’t know that. Thank you for sharing this information and the photos of the city that is closest to the center of the world with us.
Wow @Shruti_U your emojis surely excites me if nothing else . @Austinelewex surely agrees with me on this.Glad you will plan to visit the place someday after the epidemic anyway. I enjoyed the place just for a weekend anyway.
Hi, @SholaIB . This city like as Bekasi city as a satelite city from Jakarta to east. Not too far from a metropolitan city. On google maps, Tema city located in 632 km from 0. 0 coordinat to north.
