@TraciC thank you for sharing these sweet memories. It is six years but feels like sixteen years already.

With the people, places and things we have shared together, Local Guide has made significant impact on the world. The fact that we are all volunteering to make Google Maps a useful tool for billions of people worldwide.

My Six Fav Memories:

Connect Live in Nigeria.

One of the most memorable event of my Local Guide experience was the pop up event in Abuja and Lagos. We had Traci visit Nigeria with other team members. I met some fellow Guides who I never knew previously.

Outstanding Accessibility Award

My first trip to Connect Live was in 2018 and I was surprised to receive an award for my contributions towards making maps for accessible.

One Accessibility Initiative

Beyond points and leveling-up, I discovered a passion and collaborated with other Local Guides who joined me to start this project to make maps more inclusive.

Accessible San Jose

Hosting an accessibility meet-up in San Jose was one of my favourite meet-ups. We saw real accessible features and improved our understanding.

Level 10 Challenge

I can’t forget how reached Level 10. It was a challenge from Traci when she visited Nigeria. We agreed to make quality contributions and see who gets to Level 10 first before the end of 2018…

Guiding Stars

And finally being named among the 50 Guiding Stars for 2020 was an icing on the cake for me.

It’s been six years of scintillating memories. Thank you Local Guides team!!!

Happy birthday to all of my global friends.

I’m so glad that joined the Local Guides program in its first months and have this opportunity to follow your amazing stories on the Local Guides Connect.

I think the “Map your world” week is necessary every year.

In my opinion, another important milestone of the LG program was encouraged to create local communities, which started with official support and then discontinued but this background idea that Local Guides can do even more good things by their local LG communities still remained and is very important.

Thanks to Google and thanks to you @TraciC for years of support.

Happy Anniversary @TraciC ?, 6 years wooow, what a beautiful journey!

I’ve joined Local Guides program in September 2016, so quite long and always loved the program and contributing. As you might know I was missing the community behind that till 2 years ago when joining at Connect Live 2019 and making some real friends, although I’m also a Connect member since 2016. I can see how the community grows, all the efforts, the passion and the love behind everyone and that’s amazing.

This has been a very special year and looking forward to the continuously growing and evolving of the program and the community  .

My favorite memory? I think you might guess it ?.

Thank you for everything and thank you to every single Local Guides part of this amazing huge family.

I got my Extra Popular Badge on 8th September 2019 for 500 Likes earned - which has only been earned by 1,110 Local Guides.

Stay safe everyone.

Hello @TraciC , your megaphone is certainly depicting a BIG announcement being made. Happy 6th birthday to the Local Guides program and hats off to everyone that contributed to making it what it is today. Over that time the program has evolved and I’m looking forward to seeing it continue to evolve, growing stronger and becoming better for everyone involved.

While I love writing Connect posts and through them sharing stories and photos of my travels to places in the world that only few will ever visit and experience like Greenland, Mt Everest and the Himalayas, by far my best memory for me in the Local Guides program is when, in the middle of a difficult COVID-19 year, when many of us were in lockdown or travel restricted and thus unable to get out there guiding (in one post I called this The year that the God forgot), I saw a way to engage with hundreds of Local Guides from across the globe and a way we could perhaps learn about as well as improve our photos contribution on Google Maps. This started with a post dedicated to looking at our most viewed photos which in turn led to a series of leaderboard type posts dedicated to photo views. I saw that these leaderboards could easily be filled up with the top Local Guides like @Herve_Andrieu and @TorM having extraordinary photo views, so I intentionally designed the leaderboards in a way to allow for and encourage participation of Local Guides at all levels, so everyone has a chance of being on the leaderboards and being featured along with the top guns. This strategy has worked well. These posts show that when it comes to our photos contribution, quality wins over quantity and interestingly, they also show that some Local Guides at lower levels, like @FlyingTimo (Level 7), @DFX (Level 8), @TGP13 (Level 3), @Blad3101 (Level 6) and @MamenPerera(Level 5), were demonstrating exemplary photo views performances, and some like @user_not_found (Level 8), @katydarhel (Level 6) and @Rk2010 (Level 8), just to mention a few, were in some ways out performing many at higher Local Guide levels, including myself!!! Oh what a lesson I learnt there!

These leaderboard posts have encouraged engagement between hundreds of fellow Local Guides from all over the world and at a time when many of us were staring at walls in our COVID-19 bunkers. Interestingly, they have also fleshed out many otherwise silent or Local Guides just lurking on Connect and, surprisingly, this is continuing to this day! By far it is this engagement with my fellow Local Guides that has led to my most favorite moment that I have experienced in the Local Guides community. The feedback from participating Local Guides and comments like “Your posts motivate us and inspire us to improve our contributions” @FaridTDF says it all and has been very rewarding. Through all this, I too have been motivated and inspired. Thank you to all the Local Guides that have and continue to participate in these leaderboards posts and thank you for all your positive and encouraging feedback. You’ve certainly helped me maintain my sanity while locked down in my COVID-19 bunker!

Hi @TraciC and Happy Birthday to all Local Guides!

My best memory was to finally meet many Local Guides from all over the world during Connect Live 2018 and then meet others during the subsequent meetups! What can I say then, every time I enter Connect I am always eager to discover new places and taste (at least with my eyes) so many foods that I had never heard of!

Yes, I love this community and I am really happy to be part of it!

Thanks everyone,

David

Уважаемые @ KlaudiyaG , @ Ivi_Ge , @ MashaPS , @ DeniGu , @ AngieYC , @ InaS , @ TsekoV , @ LilyanaZ , @ BorrisS , @ Giu_DiB и @ Bobiisha

Thanks for mentioning me my dear friend @Anil6969 Bhai!

Happy 6th Anniversary LGs!!!

WOW! Six years… this is amazing! My journey here began in March 2020 and this is a continuous learning curve for me since then with all my LG friends here. Everybody had influenced me in one way or another, and I’m grateful for that. It actually started with Anil Bhai and @TravellerG sir. I learned a great deal on our WGS and IVM days. I am thankful to @Shrut19 tai for introducing to many of our Indian LG communities. I found some very close friends like @Ewaade_3A , who was also with me during my rough patch this year. Accessibility champs @TusharSuradkar and @Globe_trotter_Ish , a great photographer friend @Rohan10 , dear sister @RosyKohli , @NareshDarji @jaisoncbe _@MohanGhyar @sophie_menuse @BijohnAdams, @gurukrishnapriya mam… An enormous list of friends. Sorry if I missed your names here!
It is worth mentioning that @C_T sir, who guided me with the micro level analysis and great enthusiasm was a key person helping me improve my knowledge.

I am sure this year 2021, will be key for me to improve and learn more!
Thanks everyone! Keep guiding!!

Cheers!
