World Environment Day is celebrated on 5th June annually. To encourage protection of our surroundings and awareness about our environment.
The theme of World Environment Day 2025 is Putting an end to plastic pollution.
One of our friend @KetanChhaniyara giving us such nice challenge about ditching plastic which is very commendable.
Plastic is very harmful for human health .
The triple threat of pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change is worsened by plastic pollution.
11 million tons of plastic garbage are dumped into water environments annually.
Every year, the nation produces between 9.3 and 9.5 million tonnes of plastic waste. This includes the daily generation of about 0.12 kg of garbage per person. Hence, Plastic pollution is harmful in many ways:
• Plastic waste contaminates soil and water, blocks drains, and damages wildlife.
• Toxic pollutants are released when over 5.8 million tonnes of plastic garbage are burned each year.
• Waste management is a big problem in urban regions, particularly in metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru.
• India’s extensive coastline is impacted because marine life frequently eats plastic, as they mistake it for food, upsetting the marine ecosystem.
What can we do to stop plastic pollution
*Being your own cotton, jute bag with you every time.
*Being your own cup with you.
*Say no to plastic bottles, straws, cups, spoons.
*Say no to plastic bags.
*Request suppliers to use less plastic or don’t use plastic for packing.
*Have reusable utensils in kitchen.
*Purchase wooden toys.
If we can start from ourselves then everyone can start less use of plastic.
Stop throwing plastic anywhere.
Arrange campaigns for cleaning water pollution at river side, beaches, lake sides .
Participate in such campaigns as it is our responsibility.
Last year I was participating in my daughters school campaign which is panchanga river side cleaning but I found very few parents are participating in the campaign.
Chatrapati Shahu vidyalaya kolhapur is the school which is arranging and participating in campaigns.
