Bangalore Fort: A Hidden Glimpse into Bengaluru’s Past

While exploring the vibrant streets of Bengaluru, I stumbled upon Bangalore Fort a quiet place that made me pause and reflect on the city’s rich past.

Though the fort is relatively small today, it still offers a fascinating glimpse into the past.

The Moments I Captured During My Visit to Bangalore Fort :camera_with_flash::sparkles:

What Remains Today:

Delhi Gate – The main entrance, featuring impressive stonework and intricate carvings

Two Bastions – Remnants of the fort’s defensive structure

Ganesh Temple – A small, historic temple within the premises.

History

This fort was built in 1537 by Kempe Gowda I as a mud structure to protect the growing settlement of Bengaluru Pete. Over time, it evolved into a strong military base. In 1761, Hyder Ali rebuilt it using stone, and later, his son Tipu Sultan further strengthened it, turning it into a formidable fortress

And This Fort played a crucial role during the Third Anglo-Mysore War. In 1791, the fort was captured by British forces led by Lord Cornwallis after a fierce siege. Much of the original structure was destroyed during this period, leaving behind only fragments of its former grandeur.
