On 24 March 2026, I received an early access email for the new “Ask Maps” feature on Google Maps—and I must say, it felt like a glimpse into the future of search! 
The email included a GIF demonstrating how this feature works. One example really caught my attention:
“I’ve a friend coming over from the US. Can you suggest some authentic North Indian places near me where the food is not too spicy?”
This simple query beautifully highlights the real power of Ask Maps—it’s not just about searching places anymore, it’s about getting personalized, context-aware recommendations.
What I Learned
This feature is powered by AI, and like any AI tool, the quality of results depends on the quality of your prompt.
The key takeaway:
Be as clear, detailed, and specific as possible.
This reminded me of something we learned during the Shorts program while using Google Flow for generating video clips. We were guided to describe everything in detail—
- the scene
- colors
- mood
- even clothing
Similarly, in Ask Maps, the more context you provide, the better and more customized your results will be.
Example of a Detailed Query
Instead of a basic search, we can now ask something like:
“Suggest a natural place near me where I can enjoy scenic beauty along with good street food options. The place should be safe for women, as I am planning to visit with my daughter after 8 PM.”
Now that’s powerful! 
It combines multiple needs—location, safety, food, timing, and experience—into one intelligent query.

While using Ask Maps, we often feel the need to save results.
Since there’s no direct save option, many of us take screenshots 
But here’s a better solution
Use Ask Maps History 
When you open Ask Maps:
- Look at the top bar
- Tap the icon **
- Open your search history
You will see all your previous queries and results
Just tap any query to revisit it instantly 
No need for screenshots!
