Contributions from this incredible community play a big role in keeping Google Maps fresh and helpful for billions of people around the world.
Today, we’re introducing a new conversational way to share your experiences, with the help of AI — making it easier than ever to support your local community. While you can still share on Maps in the ways you always have, you can now also simply open the Contribute tab and tell Maps by speaking or typing naturally. You can also share what you know while exploring in Ask Maps, our conversational search tool that answers complex, real-world questions. Maps does the heavy lifting of organizing your updates so you can quickly review them and submit.
We are starting with three contribution types:
Suggest an update. Notice a place has new operating hours or has closed down? Just tell Maps and we will structure the update for your approval.
Share a tip. Sometimes you have a great local tip to share, but don’t have time to leave an in-depth review. Now, you can leave quick thoughts like “Great patio views” or “Park in the back.” Local Guides will earn 3 points for every tip submitted. These tips may appear for others to see across Google, in places like the Know before you go panel.
Post a photo. Upload a photo from a place you’ve been directly into the chat. Try adding an image of a “closed” sign or one that shows the stores’ hours; Maps detects the factual change and formats a map edit for you to submit.
We want to give a big thank you to the Local Guides who were early testers of this feature. What you see today was directly shaped by their valuable feedback. But this is just the beginning: in the coming months we’ll be adding more functionality, as we continuously improve our contribution experience.
Starting today, this feature is rolling out in English in the US. We will keep the Connect community updated as we expand!

As AI is implemented on Maps, can Ask Maps tells us about our contribution details like how many photos we uploaded or how many views we got for adding places on Maps?

I would love to see a “Guided Contribution Mode” that helps new users write more meaningful and helpful reviews. For instance, while writing a review, it could provide simple prompts such as adding details about accessibility, cleanliness, photos, or useful tips. This could really improve the overall quality of contributions.
Similarly, while adding photos, it could guide users with prompts like avoiding selfies and minimizing human faces, encouraging more relevant and useful images of the place.
@TiffanyBnyc thank you for sharing this update. Can this feature help update a POI that has moved to another location? How easy would that be compared to manual suggestions?
I see this as a real empowerment for the Local Guides community.
For years, Local Guides have shared their knowledge to help millions of people make better decisions. This conversational AI experience makes contributing even more natural and accessible. Instead of navigating multiple prompts, we can simply share our experiences in our own words, and Maps helps organize them before submission.
I also appreciate that contributors remain in control by reviewing updates before they are published. It lowers the effort while preserving the authenticity that makes Local Guides so valuable.
I am excited to see how this encourages more people to contribute and helps existing Local Guides share richer, more meaningful experiences with their communities. Looking forward to exploring this new way of contributing.

We got the privilege to preview this exciting new feature while at Connect Live in Dublin. I was super impressed how much easier and fast it was to update business hours using natural language. Much appreciated.

Great announcement, @TiffanyBnyc! It’s fantastic to see these AI-powered conversational tools rolling out to make contributing even faster and more seamless.
I remember testing similar features during ConnectLIVE in Dublin, which seemed exclusive to Android at the time. Are these conversational update capabilities now fully available for iOS devices as well?
Hopefully, support for other languages will roll out gradually too including Portuguese languages.
